What a fucking idiot.
He actually went into his "for god's sake, let people mourn these deaths. It's only been three days, and you're already talking about gun control" mode, as if talking about gun control somehow sullies the memory of the victims.
You know, it's an interesting ploy, because it draws on something we've all experienced, ie; don't kick a person when they're down. What's interesting is how Christie tries to turn that common feeling of sympathy on its head to protect gun violence.
Most of us are familiar with this kind of scenario: "I know Jim owes you $50, but his mom just died. Can't you cut him some slack for a few weeks?" Or, "I know Elmer got drunk and called you a bunch of names, but he just lost his job and he's really messed up about it. Go easy, will ya?"
Those are the kind of situations where we often take a step back and out of common courtesy, put certain topics on the back burner until some time has passed.
But Christie isn't going there for the normal reason. He's going there to cover for the gun industry. It's equivalent to him saying, "I'm sorry your family got killed at the unmarked train crossing. We all know that crossing not being marked has been an accident waiting to happen for years, but for god's sake, let's not bring that up now. Let people mourn these deaths."

(63,912 posts)Ron Christie isn't fooling me (and probably not anyone else who has ever seen him in action for about 2 minutes). He's an apologist, doing his duty to his masters, that's all...

(14,177 posts)12,000+ people a year were murdered in gun violence. But, that is probably just me. But, now it is definitely a good time to talk about the subject. Someone is killed everyday by gun violence. It's just not focused on because well it's just one person so that's alright. No big just someone's daughter, son, mother, father, sister, brother, friend. We need to start a campaign maybe... Call it "Even One Matters". Quite frankly I am tired of this not being an issue until there are massive casualties and the shooter has gone after strangers. Not a peep about gun violence when it is a domestic situation or gang violence.
