Was he a horndog, like some have accused him of?
I know J. Edgar Hoover hated King's guts, and his FBI was the biggest spreader of those rumors.

(3,181 posts)but my take on it is that if you are looking for perfect heroes among humans, you will be greatly dissapointed. It also could have been, in his case, FBI BS to discredit him. In the end, however, if your contributions to humanity outweigh your flaws and mistakes, you have succeeded in life. That's the case, in my view, with MLK.

(3,181 posts)so many people, particularly young people, are exposed to that type of crap on social media and forums. I think questions like this offer an opportunity to teach people about the true value and impact of MLK's life.

(46,328 posts)Hoover's FBI went to great lengths to smear Viola Liuzzo, since one of their informers was in that Klan group that killed her.
So it is possible, in fact I consider it likely, that Hoover smeared King the same way.

(43,182 posts)To answer the question, yes, reportedly Hoover attempted to blackmail and even suggested that King commit suicide over some reported infidelities.
Martin Luther King was human and was susceptible to making human mistakes. It in no way detracted from his remarkable life's work.
But seriously, man, I'd consider rephrasing your question. I mean, it's his day of honor, for crissakes.
