The Trump name is being scrubbed off skylines from New York to Toronto to Rio as the brand backfires

snip:

Any building that chooses to end its association with the Trump brand is likely motivated by financial reasons … [and] no doubt greatly influenced by beliefs about how the brand affects the building’s bottom line,” says Gabby Warshawer, director of research for CityRealty. All of which, she says, raises “questions about the viability of the Trump brand”.

Indeed, just down the road from where I’m standing, three other apartment buildings were also once known as Trump Place. Just eight days after the 2016 election, the rental buildings rebranded as 140, 160 and 180 Riverside Boulevard, after hundreds of the building’s residents petitioned the owner, Equity Residential, to “dump the Trump name”. The brand no longer signified premium, but prejudice, said residents: it had become an embarrassment.

He licenses his name to be used, back when that a big deal, and gets a"management fee".
Of course he claims he owns them, and there are several court cases where he claimed to have owned them and helped sell the condos.
When people want to get their money and sue him, or vendors sue him, he claims he has nothing to do with the bills, he doesn't own anything.

There will be court cases for years against the Trump Corp.

but he was not the developer/owner. He receives/received money from the projects in various ways, and in the case of the hotel/condos, his management company was usually hired to run the buildings. Most of the buildings called Trump-Something-or-Other involve this kind of arrangement.

One of the LAZIEST ASS ways one can accumulate wealth, but then ... look who we're talking about here.

If he can have people PAY HIM to have HIS NAME up in lights?

HOLY SHIT that is some WINNING right there!!!

What a buncha suckers ...

Very happy to see some push-back from the people actually lining the pricks pockets. I suspect this is the tip o' the old iceberg.

My DOG, what I wouldn't GIVE to see that fat fuck (and Bannon & Jah-rud along with him) be forced to declare bankruptcy ... esp. while still in office. That would be SO CLASSIC ...

At his own properties, of course, so his SS and entourage of ass-kissers, flunkies and apologists have to stay there, too, sucking even MORE of the voters' tax dollars into the Trump family's pockets.

as normal people understand the word.

they use delay tactics, outright theft, the legal system, other people's money, and proceeds from interest and dividends to bulk up net worth.

and the average American is supposed to be willing to offer their children to go die in wars to protect their privilege.

god forbid that the average person get any type of relief/a little bit extra, or some sorely needed help. no, can't have that!

tried to get the name taken off and couldn't. The owners of the million dollar condos were forced to take a loss in property value and even got many owners to write a letter that they would foot the bill to remove his name themselves. Keith finally sold his condo but at a loss though.

The chain is called ‘American idea’. Between that and the ‘Scion’ brand (that one’s for the kids), their whole clan is disowning the family name like it’s a bad fart.

Tim O'Brien wrote a book about Trump, with Trump's blessing, until Trump heard something he did not like in the book and sued O'Brien.
There was a deposition. When asked about his net worth, he tried to cover up the FACT of paper proof, claiming he was much richer, that how "rich" he felt depended on his mood at any given time.
and that was not the worse thing he said, but he is totally shameless, just blathered on.

The only thing he has is his name, and tons of debt, billions of it.
and poor JarVanka....they really believe their rich friends are real friends, and that their diamond encrusted life style will never change.

In the name of the millions of people whose lives they have ruined, I pray to live long enough to watch the end of the last act.

I've only seen glimpses of people who live at this higher economic echelon. Sometimes you find that rare jewel who is just a pure, clean soul. They help to keep you from stereotyping. But mostly, they are people who are always looking at the angles and trying to figure out how to manipulate a situation in their favor. Their one flaw is when they attempt to befriend someone who isn't impressed by the money or the drama that they help create for themselves.

So, the Trump's will fall, but I suspect they will go from being Billionaires to Millionaires and this is just enough to keep them on the social party list of their crude rich inner circles.

My guess is that he's only now beginning to realize how badly he's damaged his brand. Both his own hotel line and his daughter's clothing sit near the bottom of customer perception rankings (source: yougov). Hotels are now paying a license fee to have his name removed from their properties and that's not politics, simply a cost/benefit analysis of the their bottom lines.

Consider Martha Stewart, whose empire was worth almost $2 billion when it went public in 1999 a few years before her infamous 2004 conviction for insider trading. The damage was lasting, and the company sold for just $350 million about two years ago. Tiger Woods lost a $20+ million endorsement deal after his scandal.

Can he salvage the brand after he finishes wanking off America? Maybe. Money has a short attention span. On the other hand, he seems to be sabotaging that very brand every time he opens his mouth (jeez... I almost wrote pie-hole instead of mouth-- I think I'm losing it), and it's tough for me to imagine serious investors in any business outside of his real estate operations that won't wind up a loser when all is said and done, and I think they know it.
