I've been considering this whole hearing charade as trying to avert or at least deaden a potential FBI raid like Manafort experienced.

Perhaps, to sound out what needs to be shredded or otherwise lost. Before Mueller can see it.

300 million dollars from condo sales to unknown buyers and his subsequent threat to a witness not to testify?

He would literally not only not be safe if he did this with only the protection of the SS, he would not be safe on another fucking planet from the deplorables, they would find him and END him in about one day!
