New sex abuse lawsuit filed against Orlando Diocese

Attorney Adam Horowitz is filing a lawsuit today against the Catholic Diocese of Orlando for the sexual abuse of a teenager by by Father William Authenreith in 1978.

According to the Complaint:

In approximately 1978, St. Mary’s Priest William Authenreith molested John Doe, a 14-year old parishioner and altar boy at the church.

Despite knowledge of these accusations, the Diocese of Orlando did nothing to prevent Father Authenreith from sexually abusing children, nor did they attempt to warn parishioners or other boys whom the Diocese placed in contact with Father Authenreith.

In 1995, the Orlando Sentinel reported that four boys had sued the diocese 10 years earlier, alleging abuse by Authenrieth between 1978 and 1983 at St. Mary’s. Authenrieth admitted molesting the boys but was not prosecuted because of evidence problems. He was asked to leave the priesthood.
