PA Voter ID Law Trial Set To Begin: State Concedes It Has No Proof Of In-Person Voter Fraud

Pennsylvania Voter ID Law Trial Set To Begin As State Concedes It Has No Proof Of In-Person Voter Fraud

Defendants in a case against one of the nation's strictest voter ID laws in Pennsylvania made a major concession to plaintiffs this week, just days ahead of the start of the trial over the measure.

In a stipulation agreement signed earlier this month, state officials conceded that they had no evidence of prior in-person voter fraud, or even any reason to believe that such crimes would occur with more frequency if a voter ID law wasn't in effect.

"There have been no investigations or prosecutions of in-person voter fraud in Pennsylvania; and the parties do not have direct personal knowledge of any such investigations or prosecutions in other states,” the statement reads.

According to the agreement, the state “will not offer any evidence in this action that in-person voter fraud has in fact occurred in Pennsylvania and elsewhere,” nor will it "offer argument or evidence that in-person voter fraud is likely to occur in November 2012 in the absense of the Photo ID law.”

A thorough study revealed that something on the order of four ten-thousandths of one percent of ballots cast over a period of ten years were "fraudulent." That's 0.0004%. Now that is certainly a pressing issue.

That admission did not help the League of Women Voters in their suit against Indiana's statute.

Election fraud is rampant, via voter suppression, hacking Diebold machines, etc. and has impacted the outcome of many elections. The GOP are masters at election fraud. They know it's the only way they can win.

so they can explain away the results of the exit polls and instead claim the Repugs won when it was just hacked voting machines that picked the right wing winners, not voters. It happens time after time and won't stop until we outlaw private companies using uninspected machines to determine the course of democracy or lack thereof in this country.

They should be suing Ann Coulter (I know, she ran out the clock) and Mitt Romney during his living in the basement years.

The Commonwealth of PA has just acknowledged that there is no need for a voter ID law, but still wants to have one anyway. Am I missing something?

That thought upthread about this being just a game to distract from the real problem of hacked voting machines? I think it has merit.

Teabagger voter suppression law here in Michigan. Oh well, even a broken clock is accurate twice a day! His veto came on the heels of Moron Speaker of the House Jase Bolger's banning of those two women Representatives for daring to utter the words "vagina" and "vasectomy" so maybe he was felling a little embarrassed for his party.
