David Bier @David_J_Bier Jan 19Incredible: The House GOP DACA bill would criminalize legalized Dreamers if they failed to maintain an income insufficiently above the poverty line https://www.cato.org/blog/securing-americas-future-act-net-negative-immigration-system
...it's not bad enough that minority Americans earn significantly less than their white counterparts, House republicans want to criminalize that inequity, creating an impossible hurdle for many working-class immigrants.
It's a cynical and callous way of ensuring that only the wealthy and connected gain admission to the country, not so coincidentally, wildly, disproportionately disadvantaging the people of color our president so wantonly attacks almost daily.

(6,200 posts)It is ALL about disenfranchising likely democratic voters. Voter ID laws. Voter fraud lies. Voter intimidation tactics. Preventing immigrations. Gerrymandering.
Ultimately just ignoring the needs of the poor and middle class which leads to creating democratic voters.
They know their actions lead to the people they ignore not voting for them.
So they use strong arm evil heartless tactics to deny the people they ignore access to the voting booths.

(5,071 posts)I can't help thinking that this is similar to the drug laws that take direct aim at the black community; a way to hobble them so that they remain at the bottom of the economic pile.

(4,033 posts)I want to stand on my porch and scream. The GOP is made up of the most twisted, evil, inhuman, sick fucks that I have ever seen. We need to send the Statue of Liberty back to France and instead build an arch from the tip of Manhattan to Liberty that says "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" and below that "Arbeit macht frei".

(11,564 posts)The GOP gets it into the open: they quite literally want to criminalize poverty. I'm sure someone over there is working on a bill to bring back workhouses.
