Remember the "Moral Majority?"

They were incensed by the sinful nature of politicians. They spoke out against philandering, divorce, and all those things that didn't live up to their "Christian" family values. Their outcry, of course, was aimed at Democrats, who they framed as the sinful Left who were dead-set on destroying morality in America.

Well, guess what? The same folks have now seen the light, apparently. They champion a President who would "grab the pussies" of their wives and daughters and who romped with a porn star while his third wive gave birth to his fifth child. Their Republican-controlled Congress pays out money to shut up people who have been sexually assaulted by Republican members of the House and Senate. Russia, the lifelong enemy of Republicans, is now a warmly accepted friend and political ally.

Morality? Huh! What does it matter? That thievery, misuse of public funds, and criminal money laundering are the new orders of the day is of no concern to what used to be called the "Moral Majority." They've found new rules to follow. They've reversed all the sins they used to condemn, so what was wrong is now surprisingly right. The Right believes in itself, no matter what it does, apparently.

The "Moral Majority," has now become the "Amoral Majority," and they're damned proud of it. Morality no longer matters, assuming it ever did, to those people who make up the "baser" part of Republican support. Nothing matters any longer, as long as you are a Republican. Racism? Who cares? "White is Right!" Misogyny? Well, women are inferior, of course. Drugs? Well, those opioids are wonderful for getting rid of all sorts of pain, you know. They all use them - with the doctor's prescription, of course. Rush Limbaugh has shown them the way.

Nothing matters any longer to Republicans, as long as the "commie liberals" don't win. Anything goes if you are a Republican. Just look at the man they've elected as President. That is all you need to know to understand the new "Amoral Majority."

Jesus wept.

always excused the moral failings of their own. This is nothing remotely new. What was that thing back in the 1980's, some thirty years ago, about Jim Bakker of the PTL scam, excuse me club, and Jessica Hahn? While claiming to be highly moral and far better than those nasty left-wing Democrats, he was out shtupping his secretary, as I recall it.

The true face of hypocrisy and lies has always been present.

the Trump Train.

Go back a few years and they were John Birchers, through and through.

This element of American society has always been there, sometimes quiet and unempowered; sometimes loud and obnoxious.

It's what prevents us from ever moving forward as a nation; our perpetual impediment to achieving Norway or Denmark status as a well-governed country to be reckoned with.

They are our cancer.

I grew up in Southern California, and saw them and their ugliness first hand at the time. I remember seeing their "Impeach Earl Warren" billboards along the freeways. They were a joke at the time. However, now they have gained control of all three branches of federal government.

If we don't finally wake up and put them in their place now, they'll make it impossible to do that before long.

I wish there was a better, stronger, word than "hypocrite", since we've been over-using "hypocrite" so much, it's almost lost it's derogatory value.

To me, it seems to be classic behavior of those who follow a rule until the rule no longer serves them. I'm not sure how they reconcile with themselves what they've decided to discard and what they've decided to embrace. But I do think we've all read somewhere how this story ends.......
