2. I believe you're right. With nuclear option, Trump could effectively outlaw the Democratic Party.

As Senator Leahy said (paraphrasing) if the Republicans want a shutdown there will be a shutdown.

Trump could end the shutdown and claim victory (some funding for wall, no total amnesty, etc...) but he doesn't want to. The man thrives on crisis. He is in his element. I'm sure his only regret is not getting to go to Mar a Shithole for the weekend.

but he isn't signaling the nuclear option and in point of fact he certainly doesn't have the 50 votes he needs to do it. Cruz, Paul, and Lee would never vote for it. I also doubt McCain wants any part of that.

1 am voting that will happen take place tonight. There most likely will be several Procedural Votes first in order to try for a Nuke Option. Then he will place the same Bill on the Floor for a up or down vote. You know he is doing this to try and Stabilize the Stock Market Shock that will no doubt occur. And at the same time, create News Talking Points for Fox and Fein's.

than he does of seeing Cruz, Paul, and Lee among others give up the power that fillibuster gives them. Those three worship power, power and power.

10. McConnell already said no to a Nuclear Option. He's not suicidal.

He knows that the Trump-Presidency is good for the GOP in the short term and bad in the long term. He knows the polls, he knows Trump's lack of popularity, he knows that Republicans have lost special elections left and right since Trump entered the scene.

McConnell knows that the filibuster is the only thing that will give him leverage if Democrats win in 2020. If the Democrats win big in 2020 and there's no filibuster, they will destroy everything the GOP has worked for and the GOP will not be able to do anything about it.

45 would love to nuke something. If it's just the Senate rules he'll be somewhat satisfied. They already nuked their way to the SCOTUS appointment.

What remains to be seen is if the McConnell is craven enough to do it too. He's in it a bit more for the long term and knows that the Dems will have the Senate again one day. Perhaps as soon as next year.
