"Were making progress by inches," @SenatorCollins (R-Maine) said as the meeting in her office ended. Urged Dems to trust McConnell and move forward with reopening the government.

(4,429 posts)Sorry Susan, I gave up on you years ago.
I wish a democrat could step up in Maine.

(4,429 posts)last time. There was a democrat - but the Collins name in Maine is so well known. It would take places like Portland to turn the tide (and they'd be battling parts of the state that are so red, it's about all they can see )
I think Maine is the prettiest state in the Union, but when I made a choice about where to live in New England....I opted for a blue state. We'll visit Maine on the weekends.

(2,091 posts)1. If daca etc is brought up in senate, will it pass? What concessions will have to be made then to get it to pass?
2. Will Ryan bring it up in house? Will it pass?
3.if it passes both houses, will Trump sign?
4if trump, ryan and mcconnell promise us...can we trust them or believe a word they are saying?
Trump has already promised us if the house and senate give him a bill he would sign it. Then he either changed his mind or his staff changed it for him.
Sorry, trump is liar and cannot be trusted.
Ryan and mcconnell can end this today. Simply pass daca.and chip...today. and THEN vote on the shutdown
Actions are needed, not worn out promises

(24,414 posts)has NOT (I believe) promised a vote on it in the House, so a vote in the Senate would be essentially meaningless. There is also no guarantee, of course, that Trump would sign it even though he created the whole mess in the first place by ending the policy himself. If he was that keen for a Congressional fix, he should have done things the other way around by asking for Congress to send him a bill before terminating the EO. But, of course, that would require him to think and work, both of which he is unable and/or unwilling to do.

Collins touts a "commitment from the Republican leader to bring an immigration bill to the floor." (McConnell's promise to her last year to vote on ACA stabilization was never honored.)
