1. The ones who voted no are running for President in 2020. And they voted no with Schumer's consent.

So many Dems here don't understand game theory.

Though I think people tend to understand how this all works. It was the same kind of thing with the Iraq War vote. Certain Senators got the ok to go ahead and vote no without too much resistance from the leadership. I remember Paul Wellstone talking about that shortly before he died.

Kerry and Edwards, that is. Dean and Clark, who were not in Congress and did not vote, thus got to (unsuccessfully) run against that position.

you think they needed Schumer’s ok or they would have caved too.

I agree some of them are planning on running but believe they recognized in order to do that they actually needed to show they had a spine.

And I don’t think it’s a game. But I definitely understand politics. The can got kicked down the road for 3 weeks, Dreamers are 3 weeks closer to deportation, the Rs won the pr battle including being able to claim they saved CHIP in spite of not funding it for 100+ days and 15 senators can claim they had the moral courage to stand up for what was right even though they were in the minority. I don’t think the Dem leadership should feel particularly proud.

CHIP wasn't being funded, by Republican choice. Now it is. DACA is now supposed to get a vote. It wasn't before. And not crashing the economy by not paying government employees, contactor and all the associated businesses is a good thing.

10. I would. CHIP would be funded in any compromise

It has been unfounded for more than 100 days and the Ds always had the upper hand on this as not funding it is a R nightmare.

So we will just have to disagree.

and I will call each and thank them. I called my two CA Senators again last night and this AM to support their vote to defend DACA and to stay strong.

McConnell, Ryan and the fucking moron are going to brag and rub our faces in this. BAD PR for the Dems!
We look weaker than ever. Meanwhile the Dreamers are having NIGHTMARES!

11. The deal struck by Dems & Republicans to end government shutdown contains $31 billion in tax cuts.

including a temporary delay in implementing three health care-related taxes.

Those delays, which enjoy varying degrees of bipartisan support, are not offset by any spending cuts or tax increases, and thus will add to a federal budget deficit that is already projected to increase rapidly as last year’s mammoth new tax law takes effect.

“All the finger pointing has overshadowed the discussion about the actual substance of the budget deal,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, “and many lawmakers don’t even seem to care that the deal they are considering — which will almost certainly include even more tax cuts following the unaffordable tax bill Congress just passed, as well as new spending increases — will add tens of billions to the deficit. There is almost zero discussion of the ongoing damage on the nation’s finances.”
