sans any messaging.

Shutdown continuing would have hurt many Americans. Nothing could have been accomplished.

What was accomplished:

CHIP was renewed for 6 years. It is no long leverage for rethugs.

McConnell openly promised a bipartisan bill with a vote. He is a liar, but it will be in the open. He will be exposed for all to see.

Senate will likely pass a bill protecting Dreamers. House will not be able to. Did you see Lawrence tonight? A block with a Dreamer mother and her young daughter. MSM will thrive on this. Easy to report, massive impact. And with ICE using Gestapo tactics, there will be other horror stories blaming GOP. GOP is in a no-win situation. Pass Dreamer protection and your hater base of 30% will be pissed off. Don't pass dreamer protection and watch the human suffering tsunami coming at you.

GOP has no moral or empathy. They would gladly deport Dreamers. But you xenophobic assholes, the world is watching.

...as long as it can be used to political advantage by "our side."

You must not know any Dreamers yourself. If you did, you wouldn't possibly see that as an acceptable trade-off.

Please support your accusation. I am seldom offended on DU, in fact, this is the only time I have been. Please explain how my post leads you to believe I do not care about human suffering.

anything the Democratic Party does, including media and bots. I think anyone that was paying attention and actually listening to the Democratic messaging got it. Not that hard to see.

Did you read the poll results over at DKos yesterday? Even after the shutdown started, a sizable plurality blamed Trump and the Republicans rather than Democrats…and support for DACA went up during that time.

But, no, it didn't matter that public opinion was breaking for our side. The late, great Bartcop used to criticize "scared bunny Democrats" who always concern themselves with being acceptable to the center-right, and instinctively run from anything that smacks of being too forceful. The scared bunnies carried the day, and now, even Stephen Colbert is saying Democrats lost the showdown and Jim Acosta is writing about Trump and the Republicans "dancing in the end zone." And there are those who consider this a "victory?" In the words of the ancient general Phyrrus, "one more such victory, and we are undone."
