Not sure if this is the right forum for this or DU Lounge.
Was hoping to get a discussion going on ways to try and help Democrats win this year. I'm fed up with my job and looking to get into politics, but not having much luck doing so. My degree is in Poli Sci, but I don't have experience in it. I'm a Maryland resident and work in D.C. so I'm near it all.
Have any of you gotten involved in political careers or volunteering? How do you join a campaign to elect a Democrat? My Senator is up for re-election this year, but haven't found a way to join his campaign. What are the best ways to get a paid job or volunteer for campaigns or Capitol Hill?

(4,492 posts)My career started as a volunteer for Obama. The work is definitely not easy or is it the best paying (especially at the entry level) but it is very rewarding. In my case, it also gives me the opportunity to travel (about to start a campaign in state #10).
Send me a PM.

(41 posts)I'm new to the board and one of my first threads was going to be on this topic. I'd like to get involved, and would LOVE to get a paid position but similar to you, I have no experience. First, I would like to address the fact that Maryland is one of the most gerrymandered states in the union as I'm sure you are familiar with. Pennsylvania just struck down gerrymandering and other states are trying to follow suit. Here is a facebook page on gerrymandering in Maryland. Visit it and please volunteer asap:
https://www.facebook.com/Gerrymandered/
I also found this organization in Maryland as well: http://www.commoncause.org/states/maryland/?referrer=https://www.google.com/
I have volunteered recently in my home state of Michigan which is also heavily gerrymandered. Just no end to what these MF's will do to keep power and corruption going full force. That said, I would love some ideas from other posters in here on how to go about getting a paid position in the Democratic Party. My county in Michigan is sadly heavily Republican (Kent County is the home to shitgibbons like Betsy Devos and Pete Hoekstra, the brainless dbag who poses as the Ambassador to the Netherlands)
TIA!!!!!

(25,375 posts)Find a competitive race near you and get involved. If you are on Facebook, it is easy to find campaign events. You do not have to live in the district to get involved.
