My career started as a volunteer for Obama. The work is definitely not easy or is it the best paying (especially at the entry level) but it is very rewarding. In my case, it also gives me the opportunity to travel (about to start a campaign in state #10).

I'm new to the board and one of my first threads was going to be on this topic. I'd like to get involved, and would LOVE to get a paid position but similar to you, I have no experience. First, I would like to address the fact that Maryland is one of the most gerrymandered states in the union as I'm sure you are familiar with. Pennsylvania just struck down gerrymandering and other states are trying to follow suit. Here is a facebook page on gerrymandering in Maryland. Visit it and please volunteer asap:

I have volunteered recently in my home state of Michigan which is also heavily gerrymandered. Just no end to what these MF's will do to keep power and corruption going full force. That said, I would love some ideas from other posters in here on how to go about getting a paid position in the Democratic Party. My county in Michigan is sadly heavily Republican (Kent County is the home to shitgibbons like Betsy Devos and Pete Hoekstra, the brainless dbag who poses as the Ambassador to the Netherlands)

at this moment the local party i belong to is

- working on some non partisan elections vote is in april
-state supreme court race
-we have 3 state assembly races with 3 rookie candidates and and all could use help
one campaign kicked off last night, one kicks off tonight and the last in about a week.
-congress....campaign up and running with an office and everything
-leut gove. couple candidates
-gov....so far 17 announced most with no paid staff...take your pick
-senate yes she is up for election too.

your local party should be able to hook you up with whomever floats your boat

Find a competitive race near you and get involved. If you are on Facebook, it is easy to find campaign events. You do not have to live in the district to get involved.

Attending the official party meeting will introduce you to more candidates and ways of getting involved. Our county also has several Democratic clubs, sometimes they are hit and miss. Check the agenda before you go.
