Why Isn't Mitch McConnell Involved in a Conflict of Interest?

Mitch McConnell, as Senate Majority leader, gets to appoint every member of every Senate committee, including those investigating Trump. This appointment authority also included the chairs.

Elaine Chao serves as a Presidential* appointment to Trump's cabinet. How is this not a conflict?

Mitch McConnell certainly appears more conflicted than Andrew McCabe of the FBI.
