During Wednesdays White House press briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the White House plans on releasing an immigration policy framework on Monday.
Asked by a reporter whether their framework will include a permanent solution or pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients, Sanders answered, Well if I told you now it would take away the fun out of Monday.
The White House appears to believe that the immigration status of nearly 800,000 DACA recipients is game, and that the public should be left in suspense awaiting to hear what they ultimately decide.
On Monday Senate Democrats caved to the demands of Republicans by voting in a favor of a short term spending bill that omitted a fix for DREAMers, in exchange for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells intention to vote on a DACA fix by March 5, when DACA recipients will no longer be allowed to re-apply for the two year protected status effectively ending any hope they have of obtaining legal status to live in the country.
But as ThinkProgress has previously reported, many DREAMers dont have until March 5. An average of 122 people lose their status every day. Roughly 22,000 individuals have lost their DACA protections since September of 2017, when the Trump administration first announced it was ending the program.
Even DACA recipients whose statuses are still lawful are at risk of deportation.

(68,586 posts)You have to understand. We won't get DACA from a shutdown ever. Not the one that just passed or the next time either...what we get is a vote in the Senate (maybe). And the Dreamers should get away from Schumer's House and head down to Paul Ryan's and other vulnerable Republicans doors...because if they don't blink, Democrats can do nothing even if Mitch honors his promise. We can bring attention to DACA and try to pressure the GOP...and our last hope is the country rises up if deportation begins. The only thing Schumer did that was not that wise...is he didn't make it clear that we wouldn't get DACA from a government shutdown. Maybe he thought everyone knew this. I was shocked we got CHIP and delighted. In 16 when, we lost the presidency and did not take the house (gerrymandered) or the Senate, I knew we were cooked. Our leaders have done better than I expect in fact given their lack of power.

(1,353 posts)That comment made my skin crawl and of course Sander's glib delivery didn't help. There is nothing funny about these people's lives in the balance. Their true colors are showing...they don't give a shit about the dreamers and will hold them hostage over the stupid wall or drag this out until it's too late. They dare blame the Dems, Trump ended DACA to begin with, this is ALL on him. I have NEVER hated a person who happens to be playing the president SOOOO much!
