Did you know that deaths from opioid overdoses fell 25% in states that

legalized weed. Just saw that on GEM$NBComcast.

https://drugabuse.com/legalizing-marijuana-decreases-fatal-opiate-overdoses/
Getting Down to the Numbers

Researchers looked at medical marijuana laws and death certificate data in all 50 states between the years of 1999 and 2010. During that time, only 13 states had medical marijuana laws in place. Researchers quickly noticed that the rates of fatal opioid overdoses were significantly lower in states that had legalized medical marijuana. In 2010 alone, states with legalized medical marijuana saw approximately 1,700 fewer opiate-related overdose deaths.

“We found there was about a 25 percent lower rate of prescription painkiller overdose deaths on average after implementation of a medical marijuana law,” lead study author Dr. Marcus Bachhuber said.
Marijuana and Chronic Pain

About 60 percent of the nation’s fatal opioid overdoses occur among patients who have legitimate prescriptions for their medications. In states where medical marijuana is legal, however, a legitimate opiate user is able to significantly decrease his or her dosage, making overdose less likely.

Workers there traditionally chewed the leaves (which I can't imagine, as the stuff is incredibly bitter) to ease the pains of heavy manual labor.

It's weird stuff. Hits both your opiate receptors and your caffeine receptors at once.

Kratom is kind of like taking mushrooms; just about when you feel yourself start to get high, you're going to throw up. And have a chaser ready, because the "tea" is going to be one of the most bitter things you've ever tasted.

I have fibromyalgia and haven't had to take ANY medication since I discovered Kratom. In 2016, the DEA was looking to make Kratom illegal. Then, in 2017, they laid off. I'm not sure where things stand right now. One of the 20/20 type shows had a segment about how much it's helped with the Opioid crisis for those who know about it and can get it. Of course there are pros and cons - IMHO, the cons being that it cuts into the pharmaceutical company profits....

Very similar to the way opioids are ... it essentially IS a type of opioid (one of the active alkaloids in the plant is) though from what I understand withdrawals are milder because it's not a strong stimulator of the receptors.

To them, these are sub-human druggies, and they deserve to die. (Nevermind that the opioid problem is hitting THEM hard. They don't see the cognitive dissonance, and they'll eat their own in a heartbeat.)

They are also unable to recognize blatant handouts to the prison and pharmaceutical industries.

Public health clinics. Good clean help to assuage your feelings, likewise registers you for the need for help.

I'm tired of having peoples lives ruined forever for a period of life when they went ape . . .

No incarceration. These folks need help, not destruction. Besides, let's reduce the black market on drugs.

Thanks for the info/data on the states that have legalized medical mj. Speaks volumes.

Of course it was legal weed that did it.

MJ has been used for pain relief for centuries longer than synthetic opioids, with no truly deleterious side effects from moderate use, especially before the new, more potent strains.

However it is completely useless in my experience for acute/severe pain ... if you need a root canal and have an infected tooth, or a real bad injury, or inflamed appendix, that kind of thing ... you need the REAL dope. MMJ won't cut it.

Also there's not really much difference between synthetic and non-synthetic when it comes to opioids. I mean each drug is slightly different but it's a fairly meaningless distinction being 'synthetic' or not ... the most popular class of them are called semi-synthetic which includes hydro and oxycodone and hydro and oxymorphone, as well as the treatment drug Buprenorphine.

In truth unless you're using morphine or codeine, or drinking poppy tea ... if you're using an opioid, it is to SOME degree 'synthetic' ... the difference in the two terms comes down to whether the particular drug actually requires beginning the process with morphine/codeine (the opiates in the plant itself) ... or whether was created with no actual 'plant product'.

Heroin is considered non-synthetic because it's made direct from morphine via a very simple chemical reaction to create diacetylmorphine, the chemical name for Heroin.

Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic because while it starts with plant product (codeine I think, or maybe thebaine, another alkaloid of the poppy), it requires a lengthy and complex reaction process.

I actually kind of miss it, recreationally, but only as nostalgia. About 25-30 years ago, it became so strong that it wasn't enjoyable for me - I noticed that every time, I was wondering "When is this going to be over?" and realized it was just a habit.

I would absolutely find a way if my choice was that or oxy et al, though. I watched two of my friends struggle with it, were fortunate to recognize the problem and do something about it before it was too late and ruined their lives.

Sadly, about 2 years later, one of them was absolutely ravaged by undiagnosed cancer and died, probably addicted....but at that point, who cares?

" The ability to use marijuana legally in Colorado has reportedly resulted in a positive side-effect: a decrease in the number of fatal opioid overdoses in the state.

According to a new study by the American Journal of Public Health, the number of overdose deaths have fallen by more than 6 percent since the state legalized recreational pot in 2014."
