The report, published Friday evening, details a series of events that took place in June 2017, following the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey. Those events are now being investigated as potential obstruction of justice, according to Foreign Policy.
During his testimony, Comey mentioned that he had spoken with three other senior FBI officials about Trumps efforts to undermine the Russia investigation. A short time later, Trumps lawyer John Dowd warned the president that corroborating testimony from the other FBI officials would likely play a key role in Muellers investigation into potential obstruction of justice.
According to the new report, that warning prompted Trump to take matters into his own hands, telling aides they needed to fight back harder and ordering them to orchestrate a smear campaign targeting the specific FBI officials named by Comey, including Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

(32,803 posts)Had it bookmarked for the longest time...damn should've saved it. Rachael covered it this spring. It was tied to the Wilbur Ross stuff. A congress person went to cypress to investigate around that same time, but I don't think that was ever made public. I have searched! Cannot find it. Will keep trying

(51,638 posts)I just asked the question in a diff post about 30 seconds ago. I asked if it was money or secrets from his last (blackmail), etc. So I guess it is sort of both. Is Cypress one of the money laundering banks?

(2,771 posts)I've wondered if the Russian investment in his winery occurred after he fought to put an intelligence installation in the Azores. He is of Portuguese heritage so it might look like a natural choice for him to support increased US presence in that country. However, even the right-leaning National Review noted (see link below) that the time it would take to build on the remote island would negatively impact intercepts of Russian communications at a time they were increasingly aimed at harming the West. I've thought it could've been quid pro quo. Help Russia slow the completion of an intelligence facility and Russia will invest in your business.
Beyond that, this article demonstrates his stubborn nature and inability to see reason. It also shows his willingness to belittle government entities that disagree with him.
We've got to help elect Janz in his district.

He represents Tulare which is farm and ranch country in the middle of the Central Valley, near Fresno. Its conservative but probably not completely over the edge right wing. There is a concentration of people of Portuguese descent.
Good fact-hunting!
