I am impressed by his story. This guy is the kind of candidate we need more of.

(28,979 posts)I am just trying to introduce new Democrats to DU, so we can see the Blue Wave coming.

(66,388 posts)He seems worth voting for, if he's the real thing. Praying for a Blue Tsunami in November...
Me.
(35,454 posts)A Democrat, Huffstetler holds an undergraduate degree from the University of West Georgia and two masters degrees from Harvard University one in business administration and one in public administration.
Huffstetler, 38, served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Marine Corps and has worked as a senior adviser for the Tom Tom Founders Festival. Before that, he worked for five years in Silicon Valley.

(31,261 posts)The Tom Tom Foundation is a multicultural organization that focuses on building up the economies in small cities . It has business people and government officials involved in that effort. He seems like my type of Democrat, a doer instead of a moonshot talker.

a lot of people have shared the American dream some at a great disadvantage being a minority in this country where white privilege has always had a lead. I am stating a fact of the deep seat racism USA has. There are a lot of minority struggling with addiction, poverty, unemployment and even affordable housing options.
Just to be clear with some folks.
I have endorsed, voted for, and supported democratic policies all my life. My family and I have served honorably for our country. We had humble beginnings just like a lot of folks in this country. We have successfully completed college and have served in government management positions. Our family has had its share of sorrow brought on by PTSD and addiction. As a minority, I am fed up with the way Blacks and Hispanics have been mistreated in our country. I am fed up with the way minorities have been denigrated by a racist POS occupying the white house. I am fed up with how President elect Obama was obstructed and undermined by the politicians in Washington. Yes, because Obama is Black. I have been called "Brown Shit" in the military, I have been a token minority in a major Chemical oil company, and my daughter was subject to racist harassment in the service of our country. I still endorse Democratic values and policies. I would vote for a Democratic woman president because we need a strong woman with values and principles in the White house. But I would not venture into some areas of West Virginia because I would probably be shot just by my skin color and my Hispanic culture.

(31,261 posts)How short sighted. My parents taught me to work with allies to make progress. The fact is that a Black almost surely CAN'T win in that district, so help elect a White that will work with Blacks to build a better country, that is the sensible thing to do.

(28,979 posts)I think we should find these folks who are running and get their names or videos up on DU. They need the exposure and we need to make their acquaintance.

(31,261 posts)What an impractical condition to set. We need to field Democrats and if there is a primary, support the Democrat closer to our viewpoint, and if that person loses the primary, actively support the Democrat in the General.

I wasn't expecting to be criticized for trying to be supportive by sharing links to people who may represent the coming blue wave in 2018.
I don't see why we aren't all promoting these newcomers.

(5,126 posts)I don't think it is impractical at all. It takes a lot of courage to run and many of the men and women stepping up to run were inspired to do so out of pure patriotism. This wasn't in their 5 year or 10 year plan, they didn't see themselves stepping into politics until the Orange Ass was elected and it smacked us all in the face.
There are a lot of human interest and profiles in courage stories to be found with the current group of candidates stepping up to run for elected offices at local, State and Federal levels.

(28,979 posts)I will keep seeking out Democrats that spark my interest. It is better than feeling defeated and full of despair.
