Breaking : NJ11 : US GOP Rep Rodney announces his retirement - 33rd GOP retirement this cycle

This is also now the 33rd House GOP retirement this cycle. That far outstrips the previous all-time record of 29 Republican retirements in 2008

GOP thinks its gone as Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen's retirement from NJ11, which went 49-48 Trump & 52-47 Romney

This is my congressmen, and it's Northern New Jersey. He would probably lose this year if he ran, now it's almost certainly a Dem pickup.

I think Dems have a good chance to win it but it is no shoe-in. Trump won in Morris by a whisker, 49-48, but that is Republican country for sure

The shift would be toward the Dems. Despite the composition of the district, Frelinghuysen had a lot of personal popularity and name recognition. (His father was also Congressman Frelinghuysen.)

I thought this would be a very tough pickup. If it's an open seat, it will be much easier.
