Report: Wray appointed David Bowdich to replace Andrew McCabe as Acting Deputy Director of the FBI

NEW: FBI Associate Deputy Director David Bowdich has been appointed to Acting Deputy Director of the FBI, replacing McCabe.

Who is he?

David L. Bowdich

Associate Deputy Director

In April 2016, David Bowdich assumed the position of associate deputy director of the FBI. In this role, he oversees the management of all FBI personnel, budget, administration, and infrastructure. Prior to this appointment, he served as assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office from December 2014 to April 2016.

From September 2012 to December 2014, Mr. Bowdich served as the special agent in charge of the Counterterrorism Division in the Los Angeles Field Office. In that role, he led the Joint Terrorism Task Force, which was responsible for all international and domestic terrorism investigations in the Los Angeles region, surrounding counties, and the extraterritorial region of Southeast Asia. Additionally, Mr. Bowdich was responsible for all crisis management and response assets, which included the SWAT Team, Evidence Response Team, Hazardous Evidence Response Team, Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team, Rapid Deployment Team, Crisis Management Team, and special agent bomb technicians.

Mr. Bowdich began his career as an FBI special agent in 1995 in the San Diego Field Office, where he investigated violent crimes and gangs and served as a SWAT Team operator and sniper. In 2003, Mr. Bowdich was promoted to FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he served in the Criminal Investigative Division for one year and the Director's Office for one year. Mr. Bowdich returned to San Diego and supervised a multiagency gang task force for almost four years before being promoted in place to serve as the assistant special agent in charge over all non-white-collar crime criminal violations, the Imperial County Resident Agency, the SWAT Team, and the Evidence Response Team.

11. Don't think so

His background seems to be counter-terrorism. Those people tend to be career folks. I guarantee Republicans will come after him because I doubt someone with that kind of background will want to be a political hack.

3. Bowdich was promoted in 2016 before Trumps election, so who knows...there is this.

Officials say that Mr. Wray is leaning toward promoting David L. Bowdich, currently the third ranking official in the bureau. He is well liked inside the F.B.I. and is seen as someone who was not part of Mr. McCabe’s inner circle. Mr. Bowdich, the former top agent in the Los Angeles Field Office, is best known for being the public face of the F.B.I. in California after the 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attack.

that they put someone skilled in White Collar Crime in place during this time.

I mean, obviously, the most pressing crime problem facing the country HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE THAT WEAR THREE PEICE SUITS TO WORK

15. If this is correct, it looks as if the FBI is trying to put someone qualified but not connected.

Crisis Management and Response, international and domestic terrorism? May not be as white-collar crime centric as someone from the East Coast, but we on the Left Coast do have our share of international money launderers behind terrorist and gang crimes - as well as traffickers and dealers.
Russia is not off the hook if it's Bowdich taking McCabe's place, nor is anyone associated with money laundering. I was surprised, I would have suspected someone linked to Giuliani or anyone in either faction of the New York FBI...

18. Trump won't like Bowditch either because he is one of the FBI that Comey informed about Trump
Mon Jan 29, 2018, 05:58 PM
Jan 2018

"Director Comey also testified that he spoke to a number of individuals about this conversation shortly after it happened. According to his oral testimony, this included the following individuals:

Deputy Director of FBI, Andrew McCabe
Chief of Staff to FBI Director, Jim Rybicki
General Counsel FBI, James Baker
Associate Deputy Director, David Bowditch
National Security Branch (FBI), Carl Ghattas"

https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?id=739AD77B-E3E8-443A-A3A2-EC34AC09D819

So Bowditch is another corroborating witness along with McCabe and Baker who heard Comey's concerns about what Trump told him.
