In 1787 during the arguments and discussions in Philadelphia creating our constitution and

form of government Massachusetts delegate Elbridge Gerry had this to say about direct election of states representatives to the national body. The people, although virtuous, were []the dupes of pretended patriots....daily misled into the most painful measures and opinions by false reports circulated by designing men. []. This seems almost prescient to a fault. This is why an educated and informed electorate is so necessary to our nation and so dangerous to current republican tribalism.

I’m getting this quote from a text. The Three Lives of James Madison by Noah Feldman, pg 112. I strongly recommend reading this book while watching the political assault on our nation by Russia and our own republicans. It actually provides a sense of calm and perspective that I need.

Trump has led the gullible of this nation into a wilderness with the aid of republicans foreign subversives and agents and other designing men. We, the people, will take this nation back and consign beastly characters like trump, Ryan, Nunes and the rest to the ash heap of hate from which they arose.
