Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat terrible secret is Trump hiding?
Trump has spent the majority of his presidency plotting and conspiring with Republicans and the rightwing media on stopping the investigations into his relationships with Russia. Why, what is it that he is so desperate to hide?
It it about money, unpaid taxes, money laundering, bribes, that could cost him his wealth send him to prison?
Is he really worried that a salacious sex tape will tarnish his reputation anymore than his well publicized history of lewd behavior, cheating on his many wives, or his views on women as sex objects? There's no legal threat to him there.
Whatever he's done has to be so egregious that he is scared to death of discovery. Is he worried that he has committed some grave crime -- perhaps a capital offense, treason? -- that would put him in legal jeopardy if revealed?
Maybe its something that he promised to do for Russia the the future, something that Putin wants?
I can't figure it out Trump's secret motive in destroying his own presidency over whatever is going on between him and Russia.

(40,211 posts)Specifically, money laundering. I think it is the nexus between Russian oligarchs, Deutsche Bank, and Trump, Inc. I think it involves not only Trump but his children, including Ivanka and Kushner. It is about decades of tax evasion and secret accounts in the Caribbean.
The entire Trump Crime Family is in jeopardy.

(32,084 posts)There's a reason Mueller (and Eric Schneiderman) hired the top RICO lawyers. Money laundering. Tax evasion. Fraud. You name it. They're all likely up to their eyeballs in it. I strongly suspect that they're about to kiss it all goodbye, along with their freedom.

(268 posts)Demosthenes was the orator who put pebbles in his mouth to learn to speak better.
And for the record, Diogenes was the greek with the lantern looking for an honest man. I actually think there's some meta-joke in there about Trump, but I'm too mentally exhausted from the last year to put it together.

(33,147 posts)Trump exposed his own greatest fear.
Which is being dumped alone in a field somewhere with nothing. Nobody to look upon him in fear and adulation.
He owes people... Bigly! And somewhere in that miasma that passes as his vile psyche he realizes and fears being stripped of his grandeur and facing the ultimate humiliation.
It's the most classical portrait of a malignant narcissist.

(6,843 posts)It's just that simple. They thought Hillary would win. Figured they would not get caught. New York bankers would not lend Trump money because of bankruptcy, so he went to Russia. It's also why he won't release his taxes

The story has been swirling around the Twittery in hushed (or hushed-up) tones for a year or more. I'm now inclined to give it credence.

(10,252 posts)I would put at the top of the list, sex trafficking via his 'model agency' that brought in young eastern european women. Followed by money laundering for Russian mobsters. Probably funding gun runners too. Bank fraud thru illegal real estate loans and sales.

(7,800 posts)Therefore, we can assume that Trump and his campaign participated in directing the Russians to the specific precincts/counties they needed to hack the vote in order to steal the Electoral College.
In short, Donald J. Trump conspired with Russia to steal control of the United States government. The highest act of treason in the history of the Republic. Death penalty territory!!

(32,084 posts)It's likely just run-of-the-mill corruption on a massive scale. And, when he gets charged, he stands to lose everything. THAT is what he fears. I don't know if he's guilty of treason, but he is certainly associated with people who are.
