I know...it sounds crazy; but there are no precedents that says no.
Franken is a comedian; and he did a comic thing knowing a picture would be taken.
Compared to POTUS, Fraken is a saint.
By running for the seat he vacated, graciously, So Franken would be letting the people decide - whether or not - they are forgiving him.
Most assuredly, there will be no more bad faith acts.
Just sayin......

(42,737 posts)Here's what Al Franken said after Tina Smith was selected he said:"Tina Smith will make an excellent United States Senator. She is a dedicated public servant whos worked tirelessly on behalf of Minnesotans, and Governor Dayton couldn't have made a better choice for this job."
What would be his reason for running against her?
laserhaas
(7,805 posts)It is a paradigm.untested.

(42,737 posts)My question to you is what reason does he give for challenging Smith, who he lauded in unequivocal terms and in so doing creates divisions within the Democratic party.

(7,805 posts)Appointed interim.
I have personal bones to pick with Fraken; but I would like to see this dynamic - come into play.

(15,596 posts)I'm not completely sure what it means,
but that may be largely why I like it.
It's almost a meme in & of itself. That is,
It could stand alone & apply to many
issues & situations. Thank you, laser.

(7,805 posts)Technically, it is a question that only can be answered by the people of Minnesota...
Beginning with Al

(15,596 posts)you might have said that at the beginning of the poll.

(7,805 posts)My question comes from a New York born, lived in 38 states, currently in So Cal.
When I stated "technically" it is a fact that only Minnesotans(including Franken) can decided this issue.
Upon posting this thread, I immediately posted it as a Tweet to Al Franken.

(7,805 posts)Over 169 articles (WSJ, Taibbi, CrooksandLiars, Reuters, NYT, etc.) and several documentaries (a few on American Greed).
Except for Politicus Rmuse in 2012, and Activist Post Aaron Kessel, the rest are puff pieces obfuscating.
Here's a recent one - 2 days ago.

(7,805 posts)Attack me with name calls, and drive off those who would get interested. Because I violate some unwritten rule that says victims should STFU, lawyers constantly attack.
I sued Romney for Racketeering; but the courts wouldn't take - Confessions (have several) - seriously.
3rd Circuit ruled the FRAP doesn't apply to my case.
Washington D.C. Clerk of Court hid my case for 9 weeks, (filed on March 22, 2017) when I sued Trump & Sessions to block Jay Clayton. They knew the story would go viral, so they buried it until May 24th. Clayton was confirmed on May 2nd and judge dismissed case on May 5th that the Clerk didn't put into the record until May 24th.
Twilight Zone case managing.
Here's a succinct story analysis (though, still - a puff piece - because the reporter says "alleges" when the facts are part of federalarchives)
Romney & Sachs are not indicted; because the prosecutor (Colm Connolly) was a partner of the law firm doing the crimes.
If the evidence ever finds its Eliot Ness ....BooYah!

(2,857 posts)I read something like this and thought she was chosen as a placeholder. Obviously I was wrong. I was hoping Franken would run for his own seat again.

(4,429 posts)he'll have to get through the messy history (who did what to whom and how bad it was or wasn't).
But I have faith he could figure that out. And I'd sure vote in his favor.

Does anyone think he vacated the seat just to primary his replacement a few months later?

(7,805 posts)Smith plans to run in a 2018 special election to complete the remainder of Frankens term, which lasts until 2020. That means shed be running at the same time as Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is up for reelection next year. It will be Smith's first solo run for elected office.
