Food and drinks giant PepsiCo which owns Doritos has claimed research has found women do not like to crunch loudly or lick their fingers when eating in front of others.
Global chief exec Indra Nooyi said: Although women would love to crunch crisps loudly, lick their fingers and pour crumbs from the bag into their mouth afterwards, they prefer not to do this in public.
You watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth, because they dont want to lose that taste of the flavor, and the broken chips in the bottom.
Women would love to do the same, but they dont. They dont like to crunch too loudly in public. And they dont lick their fingers.
Its not a male and female as much as are there snacks for women that can be designed and packaged differently? And yes, we are looking at it, and were getting ready to launch a bunch of them soon.

(6,402 posts)I know the general idea and marketing will get crapped on, but there is truth to it - because commercials and movies have LONG made women eating a highly sexual thing for all kinds of food in order to sell them to both sexes.

and
What research have they done to determine that enough women CARE about the crunching noises they make?
This sounds too close to "Real women don't make eating noises in public!"

(23,975 posts)but i do feel like this is the answer to the wrong question -- why are women self-conscious about public crunching and crumb-snorting? could the market imbalance be rectified with a "free your eating habits" ad campaign? no we get a whole new product line for women only.
