I hate to be the guy that talks about money. With that said, this is going to be a hard fought battle this year, and like all campaigns the group with the most money has an advantage. In 2016, as a small donor, I decided to sit out donating to the Clinton campaign or the DNC. I just thought we were going to win, because Trump was a bad guy. I was also a Sanders supporter and felt a little bitter about the primary.
I did however give money to smaller candidates that I thought we closer and could benefit from my participation. When Trump won, I felt like I did nothing to stop him.
I somehow felt like I had failed. So this year I will be donating to all of the big players, and using my social media feeds to promote Democratic candidates.

(366 posts)I know a lot of people are mad at the DNC. I am too. With that said, state and local parties are underfunded and control the parties grassroots. Supporting those organizations are good at building on the local level - which is something we so desperately need.

(12,344 posts)In honor of their court victory today, and also because state parties aren't get enough support. Also gave $1.50 to the guy opposing Paul Ryan, just because.

(366 posts)Most state and county Democratic Parties are underfunded. I know a lot of people don't like the DNC after the Sanders-Clinton thing, and if you don't want to donate to the DNC, donations to county and state parties are a good alternative.

(51,628 posts)Dem candidates had more money donated than GOP candidates thanks to small donations to individual campaigns. That is the long term plan of Indivisible and the Resistance. We need to do it in the grass roots style and make calls, knock on doors, drive people to the polls and donate in small sums.

(4,492 posts)Your state and county party (or any state/county party) is responsible for that infrastructure.
If you've ever volunteered on a campaign, you've used VAN. That access is provided through the state, who (in theory) should have someone that shares that data across campaigns (moved, deceased, bad phone numbers, etc).

(366 posts)The Democrats need a 50 state strategy.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)Lots of people here say that. But when we do so, and they realize that means giving money and strong support to moderate candidates in red districts the go all apoplectic.
Start screaming DINO(which I think should rate an automatic hide) and vowing to never give another cent to a party who can support such a horrible candidate.
So are you good with the party giving lots of money to Joe Manchin? If so, then you do indeed support a 50 state strategy.
I agree with Howard Deans idea of a 50 state strategy.

(94,737 posts)Broadly, I rely on groups like FLIPPABLE and FORWARD MAJORITY to identify promising State Leg races.
The bigger question is whether a Chamber is in play enough that Party control can flip.

(21,809 posts)If not, you should consider joining up and maybe even be a district leader or precinct captain. The committees/clubs are always looking for "warm bodies". These are the rank-and-file foot soldiers who go about canvassing, phone-banking and/or postcard writing. They also canvass to get candidates on the ballot and persuade other groups, unions, etc. to endorse their candidates.
Do you know about Indivisible, Swing Left, Sister District and other groups working in concert with local Democratic candidates? They are other sources for funds. They also provide people power for the ground game.
As for $$$, remember: Nine times out of ten, the ground game can defeat big money if your troops are dedicated and well-motivated.
The other side may outspend you, but never let them out-work you.
PM me if you want further info.
