(823 posts)with this sort of parade. I think I would consider surrendering my time in the service through the discharge process by using the opportunity to pass in review and throw up a nazi salute as I marched past this ridiculous man in the white house. Some jail time might be worth this "grand gesture."

(30,250 posts)This parade is not to honor returning troops from war. It's to stroke the oversized ego of the buffoon in the WH. It's a disgrace and a waste of money.

(20,726 posts)I don't get this crap at all.
Are we going to drop stinger bombs on fake bad guys along the route?
Are we dragging the invisible planes down the road at 5 mph?
Are we going to have 1000 drones buzzing down the avenue?
Modern military gear is supposed to be invisible, right?

(66,446 posts)back in the old USSR weren't regular army troops. They were special units selected solely for the yearly parade. The spent the year leading up to the parade training, drilling, and rehearsing, and making sure all of the tanks, guns, missiles, and self-propelled artillery pieces were spotless, perfectly maintained, and painted with eye-catching parade stripes.
Marching in parades was their job. Not so much with our American troops. We have our Old Guard at Arlington and so on. But their job is to pay respects to our fallen soldiers, not massage the ego of the Chuzzelwitted Fucktrumpet.
I hated parade formations when I was in the Army. They were such a spectacular waste of time.
