President Trump Could Make Himself a Military Officer

[The President] shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

ARTICLE II, SECTION 3

It's right there in the Constitution. There are no restrictions against his granting of a commission, even to himself. With the prospect of a military parade in his honor under discussion, what's to keep him from granting his own commission, maybe to a brand new rank, like "Generalissimo," "Field Marshall," or "Supreme Commander?"

I'm serious about this. Given his massively inflated ego, there's nothing to prevent him from doing this. Really.

Well, except for people in the past who could fit him with some concrete galoshes. And more current parties who usually sign their names with Cyrillic letters.

Silence! In addition to that, all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under 16 years old are now... 16 years old!

I think it will piss a lot of active military off to no end. It still baffles me that as a demographic, a large portion actually supposedly support him. I think if he commissions some special spot for himself above them all they will let him know he’s a shit.

Was actually thinking how veterans groups and more importantly , active military need to come out and squash this stupid parade idea. It might be one of the few things that would wake some of his mindless thralls up to the sham of his patriotism.

for himself, with lots of gold braid, medals and bling, that he could wear to review his huge, beautiful military parade (the best ever, and way bigger than the French one). If he made himself an officer he could get away with it. I think there have been a few five-star generals, so he'd have to give himself even more stars. Maybe ten! There have been a number of photoshopped pics of Dolt 45 in a dictator-chic uniform (Gaddafi's, I think), but his would likely be a variation on the Army's, only with a whole lot more medals and braid. The hat would have more scrambled eggs and maybe even a plume. Maybe instead of regular uniform pants he'd have jodhpurs and high shiny black boots. It would be hilarious, but I can imagine him doing it.

Being Commander-in-Chief isn't enough; he'd want physical evidence of it, preferably as glitzy as possible.

The president is inherently the highest-ranking military officer with the title Commander In Chief, so I'm not sure what the point here is.

The constitution already makes him "Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service": what more would awarding himself an additional military title accomplish, beyond making him seem pompous and silly?

He does things that he thinks are impressive, glamorous and that display his awesomeness. Everybody else thinks those things are pompous and silly. He'll probably get talked out of making himself an officer, but he'd never get that doing it would be pompous and silly.

I can promise it would bother a helluva lot of people.

Commission as a military officer is earned. If Trump commissioned himself, it would be a serious case of "stolen valor." I doubt he will do it, but it is certainly within his authority to do so, if he wanted to.

It's an interesting thing to think about.

He could cite a precedent. When MacArthur complained to Truman about firing a 5 star general, Harry supposedly said he had a 6th star as CinC.

Maybe he would dress in a gold lame Elvis jumpsuit and parachute into the review stand.

Or ride in on the backs of unemployed coal miners.
