Formats Announced For 3 Fall Presidential Debates

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — The committee sponsoring this fall’s three presidential debates says the first matchup between President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, presumably Mitt Romney, will be devoted to domestic policy. Foreign policy will be the focus of their third meeting.

In between, the candidates will meet for a town hall in which people get to question them on both topics.

The lone debate between Vice President Joe Biden and his GOP counterpart also will cover both areas.

Obama and likely challenger Romney are scheduled to debate Oct. 3 in Denver, Oct. 16 in Hempstead, N.Y.; and Oct. 22 in Boca Raton, Fla.

The last Presidential "Debate" I witnessed was in 1984, the last presidential debated hosted by the League of Women Voters,
and even THAT one devolved into who delivered the best One Liners,
and NOT about who was proposing the most sound policy for our country's future.

Since then, the Presidential Debates more resemble WWF scripted Kabuki fights or Beauty Contests
sponsored by Big Corporations with Big Corporate Moderators,
and the winner declared by Big Corporate TV networks.
They are nothing more than glamorous platforms to deliver the Big Corporate Pre-Approved messages by BOTH Parties involved.

"Control of the presidential debates has been a ground of struggle for more than two decades. The role was filled by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV) civic organization in 1976, 1980 and 1984. In 1987, the LWV withdrew from debate sponsorship, in protest of the major party candidates attempting to dictate nearly every aspect of how the debates were conducted. On October 2, 1988, the LWV's 14 trustees voted unanimously to pull out of the debates, and on October 3 they issued a dramatic press release:

"The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public."

The same year the two major political parties assumed control of organizing presidential debates through the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). The commission has been headed since its inception by former chairs of the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee."

They should add on Phone Voting to this year's "debates"!

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.
