Despite their efforts to praise Trump, his administration, and his policies, the Republican powers-that-be know the truth.
They know Trump is a mentally-deficient, pathological liar who is totally unfit for office. They know he is a racist, a misogynist, and a sexual predator who has zero respect for women, POCs, the disabled, and veterans, along with people from shithole countries.
They know he has lowered our nations standing in the world, has distanced us from our traditional allies, and is not trusted by the countries who were once our staunchest supporters.
They know his policies are detrimental to our national security, our financial well-being, and our ability to protect ourselves from our enemies foreign AND domestic.
They know he is too stupid to govern, and too self-serving to lead. They know his advisors and Cabinet appointees are incompetent, inept, and have no qualifications for the influential positions they hold.
They know he is totally ignorant of the workings of government, and is completely devoid of any knowledge whatsoever of how our international dealings operate.
They know he is a loose cannon whose own ego is more important than the welfare of those he swore to serve, and whose policies are detrimental to the citizenry he swore to protect.
They know he is an idiot, and many of his own party have called him so but only behind closed doors.
They know his assault on the middle-class is literally ruining the lives of millions, and is preventing millions of hard-working Americans from surviving, no less getting ahead.
Above all else, they know that when it comes to Trump & Cos ties to Russia and all of the lies that have been told, and the cover-ups that have been exposed there is a whole universe of there there.
They know ALL of this and more. They read the same headlines we all read, they look at the same polls we look at. They see the same inane tweets, the bizarre statements, the humiliating behaviour of their pResident and his lackeys on the world stage.
They know. And that is the heartbreak of the Trump presidency the fact that his own party knows beyond any doubt what damage is being done by the narcissistic buffoon they elected and continue to support. They know that people are suffering like Dreamers who live in fear of being be deported, the sick who are facing death due to lack of healthcare, the down-and-out who can no longer rely on their government for any assistance and yet Republicans persist in looking the other way as their fellow citizens suffer and die.
They know. And those who claim they dont know are lying hypocrites. Many have decided to put party above country; many have simply decided to put their own financial and/or political interests above the nation they claim to love.
But they ALL KNOW. And after a year of scandal after daily scandal, news story after news story, headline after headline, any Republican who tells you otherwise is a collaborator no different from those who collaborated with the Nazis and said of the concentration camps, Dont blame us. We just didnt know.

(51,625 posts)A sociopath is someone who is completely aware of what is right and what is wrong behavior but they choose the "wrong" behavior regardless of who it harms as long as it benefits their own specific, personal agenda.
https://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html
In 2001 I asked my psychologist what a sociopath was since I was sure I was dating one and he explained it to me. The one thing that I'll never forget is that he told me, "Most of the politicians are sociopaths too" trying to comfort me in a way.. I think this applies to today's GOP more than just about any other time in my life.

(1,020 posts)Personal capitalism, where one tries to make enough money to retire at an early age is not necessarily "a bad thing".
Being a greedy fscking pig, trying to monopolize markets, cutting other people's throats economically, laying off people just to keep your stock prices high for bragging rights in your country club's locker room - this type of capitalism is shit.
Used to be going public was a way of raising capital for big projects that benefitted many peeps. Now it's a rite of passage for power-hungry would-be "elites". Nine out of ten times, IMHO, going public is unnecessary.
And the real sad part of it is the frat boys and the fundagelicals control all the VC firms, and thus control who can go public.

As for the voter base...Some of them might know, but I think a lot of them dont. That in and of itself is fucking unforgivable, but let's lay blame where it's TRULY due...at the feet of our nation's propaganda outlets. Propaganda has always been legal in america (first amendment, and facts as counterweights) because it was believed the general populace was minimally educated enough to smell the difference. After this debacle of a presidency (and you thought president Cheney was bad), perhaps that assumption and the legality it allows will be allowed to change.
For me, I'd prefer a law that states that if you're gonna run a newsroom, it has to operate as a non-profit, or it can't be called news. If you wanna make money for shareholders, then you have to call it entertainment. Before and after every commercial break. And if not, have fun in prison.

(14,586 posts)They have known all along. They do not care if we die. They do not care if the earth dies. All they care for is money and power, the two great illusions of this life.
When the tables turn and they are on trial for their crimes against humanity, we shall not forget their hatred of those who are different. We shall not forget their treason. We shall not forget their rape of our treasury so the rich can have a little more. We shall not forget those who have died unable to pay for basic medical care. We shall not forget the homeless veteran. We shall not forget those maimed in harm's way. We shall not forget those who have gone hungry, or have lived under grinding poverty. We shall not forget those whose lives are devastated when their employer moved overseas. We won't forget the desolate cities and small, dead towns. We shall not forget the crumbling bridges, highways and dams.
No...we won't forget.

(629 posts)But you stick your nose into some folks conversations about Gump and there are a lot of people who are completely convinced Obama was a liar, a traitor, and black (perhaps the worse sin in their eyes), while Gump is not being given the chance, the media is bought and paid for by George Soros (he must be the richest man in the world by far to do this), and he has cut "our" taxes by tens of thousands. I have had evidence in my hand (ie. the Clinton charity IRS forms that are available to the public since it is tax free corporation) and tried to show some Gump supporters and they refused to even LOOK at them. They said it was all a lie by Obama and Hillary. They are willfully stupid. They want to be stupid. They love being stupid. They cannot stand for anyone to tell them they are wrong. They will support Gump, Republicans, Libertarians, Communist, anyone against the Democratic party and it's policies, as they are marched off to slave camps. And they will love it and love them still.

(301 posts)Kind of reminds me of a song I heard in the 60's and 70's:
We didn't know (Tom Paxton)
We didn't know at all.
We didn't see a thing
You can't hold us to blame.
What could we do?
It was a terrible shame
but we can't bear the blame
Oh no, not us, we didn't know.

(70,567 posts)Paul Ryan Keeps It All in the Family
In the transcript published by the Post, McCarthy speculates that the Russians hacked the Democratic National Committees computers and, in the process, discovered whatever opposition-research materials the Democrats had gathered on Trump.
Theres two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump, McCarthy said, according to Entous, a superb reporter who heard a tape recording of the colloquy. Swear to God.
Dana Rohrabacher is a Republican from California with a peculiar amalgam of views: pro-marijuana, dubious about climate change, pro-torture. For this last position, in 2007, Keith Olbermann awarded him his periodic Worst Person in the World award, on his old MSNBC show. Like Trump, Rohrabacher has been highly solicitous of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last year, Politico ran an article on Rohrabacher called Putins Favorite Congressman.
In the Post piece, McCarthys remark is met with laughter, and Ryan cautions his colleagues, This is an off the record . . . No leaks! . . All right?
And then, amid more laughter, Ryan says, This is how we know were a real family here.

(65,157 posts)And, there have to be some who actually do know that the damage isn't worth the minimal amount they've actually gotten accomplished for their paymasters.
And, it the economy turns down, and we end up expanding wars, they're going to pay for it within the same crowds of people who put them where they are.

Not to mention that repub religious voters were promised pence if they voted for trump. pence is a radical religious RWNJ. The court cases will file themselves if pence becomes president. Focus and vote for the Dems next November. We do not have time for infighting. Get the Dems wins and then we can fight for the changes we want.
