and none of his predecessors did that while on an Olympic team. Yes, all but the dimmest of bulbs knew Weir was gay but he never said he was until after he was done with his career.

I heard he'd said that while I was listening to the radio driving the car and assumed I'd heard wrong so I had to look it up. I was sort of making a joke with "openly".
