It's not mental health and it's not mental illness.

It's the guns.

None of the recent mass murders by guns were done by people with diagnosible mental illness. Although they were all done by white men, which leads me to think that being a white male might possibly be a mental illness.

But I digress. The real issue is the extreme ready availability of guns. Until we come to grips with that nothing will change. And every single person who piously says we can't change anything is complicit in every single gun murder.

3. Yep. They can think of absolutely no circumstance that would warrant not allowing a gun purchase.

I happen to think that we ought to come from the other side, and someone would need to have incredibly good reason for a gun purchase. Personally, I can't think of any such.

Hunting? The guns can be kept in a central location. When hunting season starts and you obtain the appropriate license you go to that central place, check out the gun and limited ammunition. Return the gun and unused ammunition at the end of every day.

You need it for self defense? Really? Are there children in the household? How will you keep the gun out of their hands? And how safe is your neighborhood? Why don't you move?

The claims of needing guns for self-defense are mostly bullshit. I'm 69 years old, a woman I've lived alone a significant portion of my life and I have NEVER felt the need for a gun to protect myself. And I used to take public busses to and from work including late at night. If I, a smaller than average woman, could take public busses in the Washington DC area at midnight or later and not think I needed a gun, than why does anyone need one?

Oh, I know. You guys. You great big strong guys who are supposed to protect me. You're the same guys who won't give blood because you are afraid of needles.

But guns? You need guns? Really?

Males are in crisis in America today, especially young males.

Just saw a story about the rise in death rates in males at the age of 62. Not women, just men.

Suicides, drug abuse, grades, crime all going in the wrong direction for males at alarming rates.

A problem that we will have to address eventually.

That's helpful.

In a technological society individuals are powerful. That isn't going to change, it's going to get much, much worse.

Guns aren't even a 21st century issue, there's more guns in America than people already, availability isn't going to change.

Autonomous weapons aren't even something we can contain anymore, if you want to really lose your mind look into the potential of that problem.

It's precisely mental health. Our culture is creating too many people who hate life itself. We need to start fixing kids when they start to go wrong, which is usually when they're toddlers and don't get socialized properly.

Not Muslims. Not women. Not black men.

White men. But oh, no, we can't do anything to curtail their privilege, can we.

Let's start by declaring guns illegal. Give six months for everyone to turn in their guns. After that, punitive laws.

So what if some delicate white men wind up in prison? Isn't that better than 17 high school kids killed this week and 36 next week? Not to mention all the times some toddler finds a gun and kills his younger brother? Or someone grabs a gun and kills himself in a fit of depression?

Well, I think it's better.

10. Why does the US have a bigger mental health problem

Than any other developed nation?

Oh, right; it doesn’t.

What it has is a constitution that has been misinterpreted by a RW Supreme Ct to protect insane levels of gun ownership.

This young man's tendency to violence was stoked and nurtured by Republic of Florida. It's no different than being radicalized by ISIS.

15. Is "White Men are Mentally Ill" a part of a strategy for electoral victory?

I'm familiar with the arguments, but if you all step back and let this "White Men Are Mentally Ill" crap go unquestioned, you are not as liberal and tolerant as you think, and it's no wonder we lost in 2016.
