GOP answer: Armed camp. Metal detectors. More guns. Police on campus.

The poor poor NRA... “gun rights advocates don’t want to see an erosion of gun rights”.

TX GOP Jason Johnson’s insidious spin...”we need a serious discussion about how to make our schools more secure.”

“Safe schools act?”

F them. Then we can follow it with a Safe Soccer Field Act, and a Safe Movie Theatre Act, and a Safe Shopping Mall Act, and a Safe Outdoor Venue Act, and a Safe Driver License Office Act, and a Safe Grocery Store Act.

How about a Safe Country Act? We can have weekly public sacrifices of NRA leaders and lobbyists. No, no, not advocating violence. What would be worse for them is being forced to liquidate all possessions and accounts, into actual hundred dollar bills, and be forced to burn the money.

Who sold this guy an AR15? Why isn’t he being interviewed on TV? How is he feeling about his contribution to the 17 dead? Does he live in a fancy pop-up mansion in a gated community? Do his neighbors know what he did?

The school I went to in the 70s was open to the air, and I remember the pleasure of breezes in the hallways especially when they captured the sweet rain and carried it in with them. Like poetry, it felt alive in my young soul. No fences, no gates, no metal detectors. That was America.

This future they have in mind? A prison. One giant prison so that some people can be rich and some others can feel, ooooh, oh so powerful.

We should at least require that in schools.

Childhood is about cultivating the imagination.

I’m not opposed to temporary security improvements at schools, but god damn it, that isn’t a substitute for stopping the spread of AR15s.

My grandson's day care at least has only a single door that unlocks with a door code. Unfortunately, parents are lax in allowing others to tailgate them through the door.

So that a handful of men can make money and have big guns.

Envision the future. What kind of future do we want? Does success mean having children go through metal detectors everywhere?

Will that be the new “wall”?

Am I the only one old enough to remember when America had a better vision for its future?
