We need to get this done before any reasonable gun control can happen. The fact that such an organization can wield so much power over all of us as citizens and we do not elect them is sickening.
Politicians should not have to fundraise period. That is sickening also. The amount of money we spend on elections could feed the world over and should repulse everyone.
Politicians are afraid to vote with the people for fear of losing donor money. Hell they are, most of the time, afraid to vote at all.
Get money out of politics now. We need public funded short election cycles.
Imagine how that would fix our news problem too. No never ending smears lies and ad buys to promote corruption.

This issue never registers high on the list of voters concerns.
And, it should be right at the top.
If money were taken out of politics, it would be earth shattering.
Just imagine little to no political advertising.
What if, to keep their broadcast licenses, tv and radio broadcast stations were required to giving a certain amount of time to political candidates fir debates and discussions.
What if the Fairness Dictrune was reinstated.

(423 posts)Those that fund the NRA are indirectly funding the politicians. How many of those asking for reforms belong to the NRA? Stop funding the NRA and business goes bankrupt.
The organization's overall revenue, which includes membership dues, program fees and other contributions, has boomed in recent years rising to nearly $350 million in 2013. The majority of this money funds NRA initiatives like member newsletters, sporting events and gun safety education and training programs.
A CNNMoney analysis of federal campaign finance records shows that much of this money comes from everyday Americans. And these contributions, which the NRA uses to keep pro-gun lawmakers in office, are on the rise.

(6,092 posts)negative ads about democratic candidates without mentioning guns because 70% of Americans are for sensible gun control. That number includes NRA members.
The NRA does not represent their members they represent gun manufacturers.

(423 posts)Why contribute to an organization that does not represent your values. If I were a member and I knew that NRA was contributing to the death of children, I would quit. An NRA bumper sticker on a car should be a sign of shame not pride.

(423 posts)Your membership in the NRA contributes to to the death culture! You can help stop the murder of young children. Talk to your friends and family... Stop the funding of terrorism- stop paying your NRA dues, stop contributing to the death of the innocent. Hell, the campaign writes itself. So much material to work with. Guilt the fuckers to stop this madness.
