Jeff Sessions Stands by Decision to Recuse in Russia Investigation: 'I Did the Right Thing'

During an interview on Fox News this morning, Attorney General Jeff Sessions stood by his decision to recuse himself in the Russia case. It has been known for a while now that President Trump has been frustrated by that decision, and Maria Bartiromo asked Sessions if he regrets it.

“I believe I did the right thing,” he responded, “the only thing i could do. I participated in this campaign, and as such, under explicit regulations of the Department of Justice, no one can participate in the investigation of a campaign in which they were an active participant.”

Bartiromo also asked him about how he can “turn this ship around,” referring to how “politicized” the FBI and DOJ have been.

The AG did not quite accept that premise, simply saying “we are setting a tone of professionalism and responsibility.”
