Lucky Charms joins unicorn craze with first new marshmallow in 10 years

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lucky Charms is adding a new marshmallow to its repertoire for the first time in a decade. Say hello to the magical unicorn.

As if you needed another reason to chow down on a bowl of the magically delicious cereal from your childhood.

"Our goal is to not only create a cereal that families and cereal fans will love and enjoy, but to inspire magical possibilities and help spark imagination and fun no matter what the age," Lucky Charms marketing manager Josh DeWitt said in release. "That's why, after 10 years, we decided to introduce a new charm with the help of the keepers of magic themselves kids. They spoke, and after hearing their love for the magical unicorn, we listened."

After announcing earlier this month it was retiring the hourglass marshmallow, General Mills asked fans on social media to vote with an emoji of what they wanted as the new lucky charm. The result: a white, bright purple and blue marshmallow in the approximate shape of the legendary creature.
