Pure woo.
Oz makes bizarre claims for pajamas
Mehmet Oz, M.D., is recommending sleepware (Goodnighties) that is
claimed to "neutralize the stress our bodies produce" and to emit
negative ions that stimulate blood flow to tired muscles. [Barrett S.
Dr. Oz makes wacky claims for pajamas. Quackwatch, July 26, 2012]
http://www.quackwatch.org/15Ads/goodnighties.html The claims on the
marketer's Web site include:
**Negative ions, when blended in fabric, have been shown to reduce swelling.
**Negative ions blended in fabric increase blood flow and oxygen to
relieve pain and restore joint mobility.
**Negative ions (embedded in the fabric) restore pH balance.
**Negative ions (embedded in the fabric) promote an alkaline reaction
in the cells.
**Negative ions (embedded in the fabric) can affect serotonin levels
(sufficiently) to strengthen the functions of the autonomic system,
reinforce collagen, improve the permeability of the cell's plasma
membranes, and strengthen the body's immune system.
**Fabrics treated with negatively charged ions can help promote
healing and improve performance because of capillary dilation and
thus the increased blood flow and oxygenation.
Last year, some college students found that Goodnighties products did
not emit negative charges or improve circulation. They also concluded
that several claims were impossible. [Buckland D. Review:

Division to evaluate the above claims.

(20,587 posts)but quackwatch and its mouthpiece Barrett is no one I would ever listen to.
Really - investigate this character, he is likely not who you think he is.

(17,340 posts)But Tim Bolen would seem to be the woo bird who's feathers have been ruffled.
Bolen dislikes Barrat because he keeps him from making money.

(46,345 posts)He actually has the *NERVE* to call woo, woo.
Can't have that in the ranks of chiropracters, homeopaths, and other snake oil hucksters.

The scientists and skeptics don't have a problem with him.
And to quote Tim Minchin:
"Alternative medicine has either not been proved to work,
Or been proved not to work.
Do you know what they call Alternative medicine
Thats been proved to work?
Medicine."

(16,856 posts)Every day he introduces more foods that he believes should be eaten regularly to keep away various diseases. No one, even if he did nothing but eat all day, could possibly consume that much. There isn't enough health news out there for him to report, so he has to fill his time talking about all the different foods and substances that we supposedly can't live without. One of these days he's going to get sued by the family of some obsessive/compulsive health nut who put himself into an early grave by following all Oz's prescriptions for a long life.

Can't stand him, yet he appears almost-freakin'-EVERYWHERE.
