Steele's sources reported that a "senior Kremlin official" allegedly told Page that "Kremlin possessed compromising info on Clinton" and noted "possibility of it being released" to Trump campaign.
FBI saw this as "consistent" w/other info.

If its what you say I love it Don Jr., gleefully accepting Russian dirt after George Papadopoulos had been told Russia would release emails to help the campaign
HPSCI just released the Schiff memo responding to the Nunes memo. Mostly, its underwhelming.
But there is one piece of important news. The memo provides more details about what George Papadopoulos told Australian Ambassador, Alexander Downer, about the Russian outreach via Joseph Mifsud. That passage reads:
George Papadopoulos revealed [redacted] that individuals linked to Russia, who took interest in Papadopoulos as a Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, informed him in late April 2016 that Russia [two lines redacted]. Papadopouloss disclosure, moreover, occurred against the backdrop of Russias aggressive covert campaign to influence our elections, which the FBI was already monitoring. We would later learn in Papadopouloss plea that the information the Russians could assist by anonymously releasing were thousands of Hillary Clinton emails.
While the description of what Papadopoulos said is redacted, the context makes it clear (as does this Adam Schiff tweet) that Papadopoulos didnt tell Downer specifically what Russia had told him was available, only that they could release it to help Trump.
But that Mifsud told Papadopoulos that the Russians were thinking of releasing it to help Trump is news, important news. It means the discussions of setting up increasingly senior levels of meetings between Russia and the Trump campaign took place against the offer of help in the form of released kompromat.
Which, particularly given the evidence that Papadopoulos shared that information with the campaign, makes the June 9 meeting still more damning.

(6,254 posts)doesnt have the desire or ability to follow all the twists and turns that make up the Russia investigation. That is not a criticism of the general public but a reality in our country where most people come home exhausted from work and just want to relax and watch mindless reality television. Therefore, it is impirtant that we at DU do our part and read, analyze and communicate what is happening in the most basic terms. Maddow is a good example, she explains in context current events so the average viewer can follow. As a voracious reader of all things Trump and Russia, I find Maddow unwatchable because she moves so slow, spoon feeding information to her audience. BUT she is doing a great service by boiling down what matters and presenting it in a concise and understandable manner. Keep up the good work. DU is a great platform to find information and you and others here do a great service by reading for us and posting your analysis.
Yes it does get tedious some times when she goes into the same detail a few times. However keep the TV tuned to her. It helps her ratings and I would hate to see such a brilliant woman lose her top spot. There aren't too many PhDs in Political Science on TV now a days.

(7,528 posts)But doesn't this mean that 45 publicly asking and challenging the Russians to "release the emails" (and implying they would be "rewarded" if they did) and the fact that Russia could and did - isn't that just baldfaced conspiracy with a foreign country to affect the election whether they want to say it was a joke or whatever? It wasn't covert...it was on TV.

(9,070 posts)I wish that we could get someone to run for office with the emotional energy to get the message across.
The HS kids from Parkland are really great, but the Russian scandal is so complex that the "non-political" folks just roll their eyes and latch onto memes. Many are driven by the Fox people and Russian bots, etc.
Honestly, about 1 in 1000 people likely read either memo.

(7,410 posts)The Steele Dossier, partially funded by the DNC and Clinton Campaign, was in contact with "Senior Kremlin Officials" to source compromising information on then candidate Donald Trump?
Because to me this looks like the Steele Dossier was doing exactly what it was accusing the Trump Campaign of doing, coordinating with Russian officials to get opposition research on political opponents.

(32,639 posts)He wasn't playing the Russians, they freely talked about what they did with Trump, Junior, and his employees. It wasn't until later that the Russians were told to stop talking about Trump to anybody, don't give out any info.
A report, or dossier, telling what somebody else did is very different from running espionage assets and getting them to spy & hack for you. I don't believe Steele himself ever went to Moscow, he just spoke with his colleagues who covered the territory. Then he wrote up the report and gave it to Fusion GPS.
