The Democrats were too confident in 2016

Rightfully so, but it was a mistake.

Hell should have been raised over Merrick Garland denial of a hearing, but they thought Hillary would win. Of course she did win and I am totally certain the either the Russians or the GOP flipped actual votes, along with a litany of disenfranchisement of minority voters.

There may be one, but so far I have not seen a plan to combat the coming GOP tricks in 2018.

If possible, I urge all of you to take election day off in 2018 and work for the Democratic Party's GOTV efforts. My Democratic Congresswoman's seat is safe, so I am going to work in the neighboring district where the Democrats have a shot at picking up a seat.

has nothing to do with a Presidential election. You are right on the money about voter suppression, though.

to make the Nov 2018 election historic. We need to GOTV so that this Midterm Election has the highest voter turnout in U.S. History.

Make it real hard for them to steal/cheat.

voting system, via paper ballots, just what do you think is a big enough voter turnout?
When they know the totals, they will just add how many votes it takes to win. Hell, they've done it before, we have done NOTHING to keep them from doing it again.

majority in the Senate.

As for the other events, between Comey, the Russians, and the media distortions and lies, it is pretty self-evident.

Hillary was ahead by 4-5 points, and then 11 days before the election, Comey sent a letter to the republicans in Congress, which the media FALSELY reported as "the email investigation was reopened". That was a lie, but the media paraded every right wing politician across the television screens propagating that lie.

A few days later, Bret Baier from fox news came out and said from his sources in the FBI an indictment was pending against the Clinton Foundation. That was also a lie, but other news outlets were only too willing to propagate that lie, until a few days later Baier came out and apologized, saying he was given wrong information, but the damage had already been done.

Late Friday, Comey came out and said that there was nothing found that would reopen the email investigation, but it was far too late then.

The 4-5 point lead that Hillary had, completely evaporated, and was a direct result of the Comey, the media, and the Russian interference on social media.

and while Hillary still won the popular vote by over 3 million, 2016 demonstrated just how racist, sexist, and bigoted America really is

pointing out that the Republicans were shirking their jobs. But he didn't. He just shrugged. No matter how confident anyone was that Hillary Clinton would win the election, that was a dumb move.

Also, I feel the People had a right to know about possible Russian interference before the election. For Obama to not go public with it because McConnell threatened to accuse Obama of making it a partisan issue, played right into McConnell's hands. The entire election stunk & now we have president shithole in the WH.

That's hard for some people to accept.

But in the real world, the good guys sometimes do all the right things and lose anyway.

It could happen again this year - especially if there is significant, unchecked, foreign interference.

like she had it in the bag, people who didn't vote or even voted for trump or stein as some form of protest because they thought she had it in the bag, people who normally vote Democratic but not for Clinton, some voter registration issues, bloody primary, and probably worse. I honestly don't think the vote count was compromised because there would be evidence of that -- not just conjecture -- and it would take a number of people, not all of whom could keep quiet.

In 2018 and 2020, we certainly need to be vigilant, but mostly we have to GOTV and be prepared to counter lies and crud that arises a few weeks or days before the election.

I didn't think Trump had a chance either. I underestimated the extent of the stupidity of much of the electorate, plus the Russian interference went too much behind the radar and was just effective enough. In 2020, I will trust polls no longer.

case I got sick, had an emergency job out-of-town, weather was bad, etc. In localities where one can vote by mail, there is no excuse not to vote. If there is early voting, don't wait until last day -- too much can happen, including complacency.

That's just deluding yourself from the fact that a lot of voters don't agree with you on the issues and do want lower taxes, less spending, less illegal immigration.... Voters that hold left wing positions on the issues make up about 20% of voters. Most voters are centrist, and a lot are conservative.

Hillary lost because her campaign ran on Trump's politically incorrect remarks instead of focusing on the economy. she forgot what got her husband elected "...the economy, stupid."
