(27,137 posts)...not only is he being excoriated for taking money (stolen from us) from some Barclays executives while in Jolly 'Ol England, but it appears that no one seems to be very interested in meeting Mittens.
- So they're having to slash the price of the tickets:
The London blogger Guido Fawkes reports that organizers of a Romney fundraising reception in the city this evening have slashed the original $2,500 ticket price to $1,000 for "a few last minute guests," in an effort to drum up participation.
Fawkes quotes an email from organizers:
From: XXXX
Subject: romney dinner ..reduced price for last minute guests has been negotiated
Good news: The Romney dinner in London on Thursday, July 26th is reaching an all time record for a one event fundraiser. In order to get us over the top, we have been allowed to invite a few last minute guests at 10,000 [sic] per ticket vs 25,000 [sic] per ticket.
We'd like to know the nature of that all-time record for a one-event fundraiser. What's the data pool? Thursday night events featuring at least one internationally competitive heptathlete?
Surely athletes get in free.

(43,049 posts)McCain visited Colombia and helped rescue Ingrid Betancourt from the kidnappers. They didn't make fundraising the main focus of their trips, but it was campaign time. and they collected a few bucks and diplomacy points.
Diplomacy points because they both handled the situations deftly while the usual election complaints and bullshit were being thrown around and everyone was happy when it was over. Unlike Romney who is just proving he's an inept klutz.
McCain a better diplomat than Romney-- imagine that.
Anyway, although it might be a bit unseemly, it's perfectly legal if the money is only taken from visiting US citizens and expats who happen to be hanging out in said foreign countries. And President Obama is setting up fundraisers all over Europe and China even though he can't make it there himself, because he's, like, the President and he has no time and it would look really bad.

(21,786 posts)London is a global financial centre which does more trading volume in real money terms than New York. There are something like two hundred thousand Americans in the UK; a good many of those live in London and work in the financial industry...bankers, traders, and so on.
