Manafort Left a Digital Trail of His Crimes

February 25, 2018 at 11:54 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Ars Technica explains how evidence of Paul Manafort’s fraud was exposed because he didn’t know how to edit a PDF file — so he emailed Rick Gates to do it.

“By sending these documents back and forth by email, Manafort and Gates made it easy for prosecutors to pinpoint exactly who changed the documents and when.”

Maybe someone could explain this to me.

Why would it have to be in emails for Mueller to learn about it?

If it was on his computer, a PDF file or a word document, would it not still be found when they searched the computer?

I am missing something.

You knew what you were looking for. The email red flags it for them. "Looking for a crime? Look no further." Also, next to impossible for either one to claim they were hacked, and easy for Feds to prove intent to defraud since the email narrates their intent at the time ("Rick convert to word so I can doctor this before sending to bank B. Need to pump up the revenues to get this loan.&quot
