We all know it is bullshit and even if his own kids or grandkids were in the building he wouldn't do it. His base probably knows, intellectually that it is bullshit, but they won't allow themselves to admit it and rather, buy into it on an emotional level to feed their need for that strong, paternal figure. It's framing as described by Lakoff.
