A publication has obtained a recording of former President Obama's address at a conference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), despite attendees being barred from sharing the contents of the speech.
Reason published the recording of Obama's speech on Monday, writing that "the most newsworthy thing about it is the simple fact that the public wasn't supposed to hear it."

During the speech, Obama said his administration "didn't have a scandal that embarrassed us."
He said that while officials did make mistakes, there were no major controversies.
"I know that seems like a low bar," Obama added, in an apparent jab to the scandals surrounding President Trump's administration.
"Generally speaking, you didn't hear about a lot of drama inside our White House," he said.

We are witnessing a horrifying reveal right now.

"Following the panel, the sharing or reporting of its contents on public platforms, including social media, will not be permitted," the notice sent to attendees read. "Those who fail to adhere to this policy will be subject to removal from the conference and denied tickets to future SSAC conferences."
Odd policy. I wonder if it holds for all events like this?

(58,737 posts)unfortunately, our reality TV culture demands drama, especially where it is not needed or even desirable.
I swear, a huge percentage of Trump voters were just internet trolls wanting to "fuck things up" for the entertainment value.

(16,646 posts)I've had more than one "Trumpet" say both before and after the election that they were looking for him to "shake things up", with no real goal to the shaking.

(16,646 posts)I wasn't the biggest Obama fan by any stretch, but one of the things I did repeatedly note was that he and his administration managed to avoid any of the scandals that almost every administration before him suffered. And that really goes back basically all the way to LBJ. They did alot of stuff in secret, and not always to my liking, but when information did leak out, it wasn't a scandal. People may not have agreed with it, or thought it was really bad policy, but it almost always passed the "I wouldn't want this on the front page" test.
(The phone metadata and related issues was about as close as it came, and ultimately very little changed once exposed).

(25,908 posts)to share the contents of that speech? That makes is sound like he had something to hide. WTF?

(25,908 posts)I'm sorry, but I'll go back to my thought that saying the contents could not be leaked is exactly what someone who has something to hide does. Not someone who actually wants the message to be spread far and wide.

I'm personally more disturbed that someone felt compelled to blab to MSNBC anyway...

(25,908 posts)I'm not actually suggesting that Obama has something to hide, but an attempt at secrecy just feels very off.

Too bad the American people didn't catch on to what a monster Obama was right then and there! Orange juice with breakfast. The horror, the horror.
