Could Georgia Republicans' spat with Delta threaten Atlanta's bid to land Amazon's second headquarters?
The city is on Amazon's short list of the 20 metro areas still in running for the $5 billion facility that will create 50,000 jobs. The company received proposals from 238 cities and regions across North America.
Experts say Atlanta's cost of living, talent pool and access to the world's busiest airport (despite its major power outage last year) are some of its biggest draws. But the state's current political climate could cause Amazon to think twice.
Georgia Republicans are threatening to kill a tax break for Delta (DAL) over the airline's move to sever ties with the National Rifle Association following a mass shooting at a Florida high school.
"It signals to Amazon that politicians in Georgia are more concerned about scoring points with constituents sympathetic to a particular social view than they are about whatever business or economic rationale they may have to direct benefits to a specific firm," he said.
Other companies thinking about expanding to Georgia could worry about politics interfering with business, as well, according to Wisconsin's Arora.
Republicans will absolutely cut off their nose to spite their face. They are such job creators that they will chase companies away with their extremist values. Maybe a nice friendly blue state would be better.

What does HE and their others think these attempts by the NRA, a bunch of pissant Republicans in Georgia's legislature, and anti-gun activists to pressure Amazon would auger for a headquarters here? They knew what Georgia was when they put it on their short list.

(15,960 posts)I am a professional real estate photographer and D/FW is growing at a very fast pace.
If you're familiar with Tarrant and Parker Counties, there are a couple of communities being developed. One of the communities is 8000 acres and there are going to be 15,000 new homes.
So, BRING IT ON AMAZON!!!

(36,827 posts)I suspect they would move to the Alliance area. The airport there is already a hub for FedEx, and its an area with relatively cheap real estate, yet excellent access to resources required for such an organization. I own a rent home just south of the airport.

Yep, Alliance is definitely the area they would move to most likely.
There is also a huge Amazon warehouse in the area. It is massive!

It still blows me away he isn't being sued over that statement. Maybe they are drawing up the complaints as we speak, and I'm just not in the loop?

(17,984 posts)Hey! I ordered a quarter, a glass pipe, and three bags of Doritos. But my box contains a gimp mask, leather whip, and a knitting video.
BTW: I have received some very, very strange boxes in the past. One of them contained four XXXL t-shirts with a deer on the front that said "Oh deer!" I gave those away as gag gifts.
