might not realize how much power her seniority gives to the state of California. New senators don't take over committee assignments held by their predecessor. They take whatever they can get, and they start from the bottom.
In addition to being on the Senate Appropriations Committee, she is the ranking member of Judiciary, on the subcommittees for Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security; and a member of the Intelligence committee; and of Rules & Administration.
If California dumps Feinstein, they'll immediately lose the power her seniority brings the state. But that's okay -- with Feinstein gone, my state's senators will have that much more influence.

What a waste. What a mistake for voters in his district.

(16,993 posts)or changed with the next new shiny distraction. Plus, it already lost here two years ago.
Feinstein said herself that she was thinking of stepping away, but Clinton's loss made her reconsider. She was on all the committee's and saw some suspicious things she wanted to see through. I'm so glad she did. We need her on the Russia investigations.
What is so noticeable is that the people who don't want her to stay also don't care about Russia meddling. That seems to be the common thread from many, it seems. Certainly not all.

(11,175 posts)If another Democrat replaces Feinstein in the Senate, then every Democrat who's junior to her moves up one notch in seniority. The total influence of all the members of the Democratic caucus, taken together, remains the same.

(109,000 posts)the same arguments people are making against her -- basically that she's too old -- could be used against every other older Senator with experience. We need all that experience in the battle against DT.
