Sen. Hatch calls Affordable Care Act supporters 'stupid,' 'dumbass' people

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch didn't mince words when he spoke about Affordable Care Act supporters in a speech given Thursday at the American Enterprise Institute.

"We [...] finally did away with the individual mandate tax that was established under that wonderful bill called 'Obamacare.' Now, if you didn't catch on, I was being very sarcastic. That was the stupidest, dumbass bill that I've ever seen. Now, some of you may have loved it. If you do, you are one of the stupidest, dumbass people I've ever met. This was one-- and there are a lot of 'em up on Capitol Hill from time ," Hatch said.

Hatch called the individual mandate a regressive part of the tax code and "one of the great ironies of Obamacare."

Matt Whitlock, a spokesman for Senator Hatch's office, sent Fox 13 this statement: “The comments were obviously made in jest, but what’s not a joke is the harm Obamacare has caused for countless Utahns.”

The office of Mitt Romney, who is running to replace Hatch at the end of his term, declined to comment.

I've noticed as I age (soon to be 70) that little thing in my head (filter) kind of disappears...Orin Hatch spend years perfecting his Mr. Civility persona...now we see the real Orin Hatch...a bigoted piece of garbage... remember Hatch's good friend in the senate was Ted Kennedy..when Hatch finally leaves this earth and comes face to face with his good friend I want Ted to kick Hatch's trump-loving white ass!

Obamacare was modeled off of Romney's healthcare plan in Massachusetts.

The people benefitting from the program aren't stupid or a bunch of dumbasses. The Republicans hellbent on taking any and all healthcare away beyond catastrophic plans are the clueless, heartless ones.

Including Hatch. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Senator.

Because you and your corporate-enthralled buddies in the Republican party demanded that insurance companies stay in the health care business. Insurance companies don't contribute one positive thing to the delivery of health care, but you and your dollar-addicted cronies had an absolute hissy fit over insurance companies getting cut out of the process.

So, in exchange for leaving insurance companies in the loop, the ACA required that insurance policies had to actually cover something (that basic benefits package, including preventive care and annual check-ups), and that everyone had to participate, even able-bodied invincible young people who never make insurance claims. This was to widen the pool of participants, and lower costs for everyone. Of course, you and your spoiled brat ilk immediately began bad-mouthing the individual mandate you had forced on the bill, and advised young people that it would be cheaper to pay the penalty than to buy insurance that actually covered them.

Then, after all those attempts at sabotage, and holding your breath until you got your way, after all the gathering of testimony, after all the effort to make the ACA serve as many as possible at the lowest cost in spite of your monkey-wrenching of the bill, not a goddam one of you Republicans voted for the final package.

That makes you a cruel, greedy, short-sighted asshole, Orrin.

Early last year, he said some of his Democratic colleagues who were seeking to stall the confirmation of some of President Trump’s executive branch nominees “ought to stop posturing and acting like idiots.”
