But it was ok for Bush to go in 2008.

(42,610 posts)when he should be running the country. And if neither of them had gone, it would have been tacky because obviously they're so petty they didn't want to be there if Ann Romney's horse wins a medal.....
There's no winning this one.

(11,304 posts)talking about classless. They are the 2 worst example of female politicans that put ALL female politicans back 20 yrs. Mrs Obama isn't the most beautiful woman in the world but she is one of the classy ladies in the world. She always looks beautiful. She always looks like she wants to be where she is at any time. Not many first ladies look like that. I even likes Laura Bush and many times she didn't look happy being there. Our first lady is one heck of a respresentive for our country.

This time, he didn't even bother.

(362 posts)My husband insists he's an Independent. But in fact, he's only voted Republican in a few local elections. He's voted D. in every national election since 1972.
Chorophyll
(5,179 posts)He comes from a really conservative family, but he prides himself on being "independent-minded." And he is. He's one of the few people I know who doesn't judge a situation until he's studied it. But even when he was a Republican, his favorite president was Jimmy Carter. So he's an odd duck.

(9,397 posts)but that is some funny shit right there. oh lordy. one of my co-workers told me that her son picked her up at work and that she was so busy fussing at him for being late and using up the gas. that she didn't realize he wasn't in the car after driving half a mile from work. lol, over the top funny. she said he was just sitting on the curb when she got back to work. man I could not stop laughing for nothing.

(55,981 posts)My mother in law was like that. If you go back to their youth, there was a lot of racism. Not necessarily blatant, but subtle. I bet his mother sees "classy" as a white thing by definition.

(5,179 posts)My own mother-in-law makes similar comments. She knows I'll take her to task if she says what she really means, so she couches her racism in obvious euphemisms like "no class."

treestar
(82,383 posts)They can't bear to listen to the (black) president, or anyone remotely liberal or even middle of the road, so therefore, they have no exposure to the Obamas themselves whatsoever. Their opinions are derived from the RW talking points. Thus the teleprompter claim, the Chicago thug claims, all kinds of characterizations which have nothing to do with Obama and they sound delusional saying it. One wonders if they know how stupid they sound.
Douglas Carpenter
(20,226 posts)She seriously believes that the ACLU is a consciously evil conspiracy to destroy America. She seriously talks about Nancy Pelosi the way we would talk about Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann. She seriously believes the President is either a communist or almost a communist but certainly part of some kind of Marxist-Islamic conspiracy. In ordinary life she is a kindly, tolerant and reasonable person. But her information sources are something from a different planet.

(383 posts)Michelle Obama has been nothing but full of grace. Especially so, when you considers the lack of grace that is shown her by a certain community of white women in this country.
Michelle Obama hasn't done anything to be deserving of their scorn except the audacity to have been born a black person.
But watch, this isn't racism they'll say......
Even accomplished black people are still seen to them Ni***rs.....
And even more sad, it isn't always limited to Republicans.

(14,177 posts)But, she won me over. I love how she interacts with children. She doesn't stick her foot in her mouth. She doesn't seem to look down on people. I can't say anything like that about Ann. I haven't seen Ann with children, but I can imagine the look of pain on her face. I would say she sticks her foot in her mouth way too much, but it seems like a permanent fixture there. She does look down on people or rather "you people". I sincerely hope Ann never gets to pick out drapes for the White House.

What a stupid thing to base your support on. I think she's not being honest with herself or you.
Michelle is not only classy she's also one of us. She's a real person who doesn't spend $990 on a t-shirt, and never referred to the American public "you people".

(1,328 posts)but my mother leaned democrat or else she was just agreeing with me but if she had lived to See PBO win she would have been horrified.
She was scared to death when Jesse Jackson ran, no matter what I said she wouldn't budge.
I learned to become more Democratic because of my in-laws and husband. So grateful for that.
My father was a farmer so therefor republican.

You have my sympathies. My idiot brother has gone that route, too. He hasn't insulted Michelle Obama yet, he has been spewing a lot of the other bullshit.
