(40,367 posts)(CNN) A western North Carolina police officer who resigned after a body camera video shows him hitting and using a Taser on a man suspected of jaywalking will face preliminary charges of assault, the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.
Senior Police Officer Christopher Hickman, 31, was removed from patrol duty a day after the incident last August and resigned from the Asheville Police Department in January, the same day he was to be terminated, according to a timeline of the case released by the Asheville City Council.
On Thursday, a judge issued a warrant for Hickman's arrest on one count each of assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats.

(297,366 posts)was rightfully disciplined.. ooops, he didn't send in a report. Hickman probably thought he got away with it all until all hell broke loose.
It didn't mention what happened if anything to the officer in training.. he wasn't the one who used excessive on Rush's head, though.
I used to live in Asheville in the '70s.. so I'm always interested in that city.. and my sister lives in Fairfield, NC now.. right outside of Asheville.

(40,367 posts)27 cases started by Asheville police officer who beat a pedestrian are dropped
ASHEVILLE - District Attorney Todd Williams has dropped 27 cases initiated by the officer involved in the August police beating of a man accused of jaywalking.
And more may come as the DA's office analyzes convictions obtained using Hickman's testimony, Williams said in a Monday announcement.
The former officer, Chris Hickman, could not be considered a credible witness, Williams said.
The cases dropped involved 17 defendants and included some felonies and DWIs, Williams told the Citizen Times.
They did not include any violent felonies or sex offenses, he said.

(297,366 posts)thanks for that G_J
...Id call it more like subject to senseless brutalization, resulting in lifelong injury and trauma, but I know the sign is only so big

(1,823 posts)I've been there before... that sign is directly in front of the Asheville court house/jail/government offices (building on the left), and the downtown police department is (used to be at least) right around the corner.

(297,366 posts)apple so to speak.
That sign is certainly a deterrent for anyone else even thinking about it.
