(19,581 posts)This would of been a sleepy election, but Republicans pushed their voters out with lies. And, of course all the media attention may have lost this for us.

(31,121 posts)and I hope if they do this country goes batshit crazy but we wont because we will be told it was expected to be close, blah blah blah

(38,537 posts)They've had plenty of experience. They wait to see if it's going to be close enough to do it. If it is, they do.

(31,121 posts)and regardless of when they count them or report them, I dont think an election that involves a republican can be legit.

(15,290 posts)FTR, I was a judge of elections for a 4 year cycle. The way election boards are set up, there is always a member from the minority party. There are two exact copy books kept by 1 election board member with the names hand-written in of all voters appearing at the polls. After the polls close, the number of voters is compared to the sum of voters on all voting machines to ensure everything matches. There are at least 8 copies of results printed out, 1 for the judge of elections, 1 for each party representative, 1 for the election borad, 1 to be posted on the polling place door for public inspection and a few extra just in case. The results are signed by all members of the election board. The majority and minority party reps go home with their copy of the voter list and results. There is no chance results will be changed after they are printed out from the voting machines.
Precinct by precinct results will eventually be posted by the Westmoreland Co election board and they can be easily cross-checked.

(15,290 posts)I was a judge in Phila, but my precinct had it's share of conservadems and Rs.
My experience was that both campaigns were constantly coming in to check turnout and get an estimate of how many Ds and Rs voted. Sometimes party precinct captains would come in at closing to get their copy of the results to take back to their party HQ. There were 4 precincts in my polling place and I never saw anyone act with anything other than honesty and integrety. Everyone took their job seriously.

(8,685 posts)I also worked a precinct back in Obama first election. For sure everyone took it seriously.

(19,204 posts)There is no reason in hell why we have to know the results by midnight of election day. If it takes a week, it takes a week. And there have to be monitors in every freaking precinct in the U.S. I'd rather be positive the results are correct, instead of fast.

(26,653 posts)That this is so close, it may be happening now. Only massive turnout will overcome this in red states.
