What we missed in the US last night

While we were stuck watching a meaningless interview, this is what was happening in the stadium in London: http://deadspin.com/5929778/heres-the-opening-ceremony-tribute-to-terrorism-victims-nbc-doesnt-want-you-to-see

This is the first time a whole segment of the opening ceremony has ever been cut and they're not happy about it in the UK.

Also, it's interesting being able to watch it without having some bobblehead blabber all the way through it.

The Seacrest/Phelps interview was not worthy of preempting such a tribute -- especially by a country that literally redefined itself after its own national tragedy.

WTF? MSNBC preempts Chris Hayes' excellent "Up With Chris Hayes" on both Sat & Sun AM's (8-10) for unending coverage of the most expensive sporting event in history!
The Olympics are on at least five-six other networks. Why can't there be less greed in the media ownership? Oh, yeah...mega-corps answer only to their shareholders. Isn't there something in the FCC licenses about public interest? My view? Phuque NBC et al...
That said, I thought there were some terrific show-biz sequences in Danny Boyle's extravaganza.
