He would have fired him on day one if it had been possible.
But, some Republicans were voicing resistance and he had to go thru the process of persuading them by discrediting everyone involved with the investigation.
He got a big green flag when the Republicans shut down the House Intel Committee. They made the statement that there was "no evidence of collusion". This is all that Donald needed to get the ball rolling.
The Republicans are almost ripe for the picking. When they go home, all their constituents support the firing of Robert Mueller. They agree with their president. Republican office holders feel that pressure.
His second tweet so far today is simple and straight-forward: "It's a WITCH HUNT!"
Some might think he is ready to make his move?

(26,268 posts)Perhaps saying if he DOES make noises like that is the route he will take, he will face serious and humiliating opposition. That way they can issue a warning and still manage to 'save face' with their republican constituents.
I say that in my desperate hope that there are still some GOPers who have some remnants of a conscience. I could be delusing myself.
